Banjo player extraordinaire Scott Vestal is the 2017 recipient of the 8thAnnual Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass. Grammy Nominee Peter Wernick, known as Dr. Banjo, presented Vestal with the award on stage at the 45th Annual Rocky Grass Festival in Lyons, CO this past Saturday after Vestal's performance with the Sam Bush Bluegrass Band. Previously the recipient of the Banjo Player of the Year in 1996 by the International Bluegrass Music Association, Vestal is an in-demand session player who has engineered, produced, and played on various award-winning instrumental recordings.

'Giant' Sculpture Coming to Tribeca Park

Tribeca Park visitors will be greeted by a colossal sculpture of a head by artist Nicolas Holiber. While the popular bronze teddy bear by Gimhongsok that preceded it only appeared to be made of trash bags, Holiber's public artwork Head of Goliath is literally made from New York City's debris: reclaimed wood from shipping pallets and other found materials. The mixed media sculpture is Holiber's interpretation of the biblical story and long?standing art historical theme of David and Goliath, and will be on view until September 2015. A reception will take place in the park Saturday May 16, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Art Institute of Chicago to Garner Largest Gift of Art in Museum's History

CHICAGO —Douglas Druick, President and Eloise W. Martin Director of the Art Institute of Chicago, announced today the largest gift of art in the museum's 136-year history: the Edlis/Neeson Collection, 42 iconic masterpieces of contemporary art donated by the Chicago-based collectors and philanthropists Stefan T. Edlis and his wife, Gael Neeson. The gift includes nine works by Andy Warhol, three paintings by Jasper Johns, one Robert Rauschenberg Combine, two paintings by Roy Lichtenstein, four paintings by Gerhard Richter, and a painting and sculpture by Cy Twombly. The installation remains on view through November 2015.
