Tonight, the 43rd Annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards ceremony and award presentation hosted by Craig Lauzon occurred at the TELUS Centre for Performance and Learning, Koerner Hall.

At a press conference held at Meridian Hall, the Toronto Alliance for the  Performing Arts (TAPA) announced 228 nominations for the 43rd Annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards, which recognize excellence in professional theatre, dance and opera in Toronto for the 2022-2023 season. Also announced at the press conference was the recipient of the Province of Ontario’s Pauline McGibbon Award.

Five mainstage productions and additional programming planned

​​​​​​​Young People's Theatre has announced the opening of its 2022.23 season with the world premiere of Bentboy – a heroic First Nations tale about an unlikely warrior told through movement, dance and myth.

This fall, Young People's Theatre (YPT) is beyond thrilled to re-open its doors to reveal a transformed YPT, and present a highly anticipated 2022.23 playbill of onstage productions.

Daisy tells the true story of the controversial ad campaign surrounding Lyndon B. Johnson's presidential run in 1964. The attack ad that was created to support Johnson used fear marketing, playing on people's emotions to convince them that a vote for Johnson's rival, Barry Goldwater, would send America into nuclear war.

Almost 20 months ago, GCTC opened Sean Devine's Daisy, a play about the creation of the first modern political attack ad. One day later, the COVID-19 pandemic forced the theatre to close. Since then, the show has been dark. But the wait is nearly over. 

Great Canadian Theatre Company (GCTC) and its Board of Directors are excited to announce that Sarah Kitz will take on the role of Interim Artistic Director. Sarah succeeds Eric Coates, who announced he was leaving the company in May after nine years as Artistic Director.

In March 2020, Great Canadian Theatre Company (GCTC) opened the Canadian premiere of Sean Devine's Daisy, only to close it the very next day due to the pandemic. This December, the play will triumphantly return to the stage as the first show of GCTC's much anticipated 2021-22 season, and marks the theatre's return to in-person theatre after a 20-month hiatus.

Negotiations with Existence is a series of thirty-minute video episodes, incorporating short film production, lyrical music, and short story narrations which ponder the big questions in the small stories of life.

Sharon Peake, Chair of the GCTC Board of Directors, announced today that artistic director, Eric Coates, is stepping aside after nine seasons with the company. He will leave the position at the end of May, 2021. 

Between now and the end of April, GCTC takes to the digital world with a flurry of online activity including concerts, plays, and hybrid mash-ups of both.

Daisy tells the true story of the first modern political attack ad: the a?oeDaisya?? ad commissioned by the White House to help Lyndon Johnson win the 1964 presidential race against Barry Goldwater. The firm they chose was Madison Avenue's Doyle Dane Bernbach (DDB), who created an ad that swept through the public consciousness like an atomic shockwave.

DANCEWORKS presents PROPELLER DANCE's double bill of FLESH & SPOKES and SPASTICUS. This production is presented by Ottawa-based disability arts/integrated dance company PROPELLER DANCE and was created and choreographed by Renata Soutter and Liz Winkelaar. These two pieces encourage us to challenge perceived notions, open our hearts and celebrate diverse bodies and minds. Premiering at Fleck Dance Theatre (Harbourfront Centre), March 13 - 14, 2020.

Lori Marchand (Syilx First Nation) and Hugh Neilson, respectively the NAC Indigenous Theatre and GCTC Managing Directors, will engage in an inter-organizational and intercultural exchange in the spirit of their joint production at 6:45pm on January 22 at GCTC.

An Indigenous farmer begins planting wild rice along ancestral lakeshore, causing ripples throughout the local cottager's association in Drew Hayden Taylor's Cottagers and Indians, on at GCTC November 26 - December 15.
