THE PUBLIC SERVANT Sells Out at GCTC

Great Canadian Theatre Company is ending its 2014-2015 season with a smash hit. Today, the theatre announced its production of The Public Servant is completely sold out. Since opening night on June 4th, the Box Office has been inundated with hundreds of calls a day, quickly selling out all available tickets not held by subscribers. The show runs until June 21 and cannot be extended due to artist availability. There may be tickets returned to the Box Office and resold to people who come to the theatre thirty minutes before each performance.

The Burden of Self Awareness has proved to be a blessing for the Actors' Fund of Canada. Great Canadian Theatre Company's world premiere of the darkly-humorous George F. Walker play has raised an amazing $18,730 in support of the Actors' Fund of Canada which provides emergency funding for Canadian entertainment professionals in times of crisis.

Orange County, Calif.—Oct. 17, 2013—Praised as “the new voice of the American rock-and-roll songbook” (Billboard) with both Grammy- and Tony-award nominations, charismatic performer Michael Cavanaugh opens Pacific Symphony's 35th anniversary Pops season with crowd-pleasing pop and rock piano hits during his new show, “Michael Cavanaugh: Songs of Elton John and More.” Handpicked by another famous pianist, Billy Joel, to star in the Broadway musical “Movin' Out” in 2001, Cavanaugh quickly gained a reputation for his skillful talents on the piano and lead vocals rivaling those of the “Piano Man” himself. After the musical closed in 2005, he began touring on his own, reinterpreting the modern pop/rock songbook, and eventually bringing his “Songs of Billy Joel and More” to a full house at the Symphony's Fourth of July concert in 2009. GCTC's LIKE WOLVES Wolves Raises Nearly $13,500 for Actors' Fund of Canada

Rosa LaBorde's new play may be called Like Wolves, but Great Canadian Theatre Company audiences gave the lion's share during the play's 18 day run in Ottawa from June 4-23. The critically acclaimed and dramatic black comedy raised almost $13,500 through audience collections in support of the Actors' Fund of Canada.

The Board of Directors of the Blyth Centre for the Arts has announced the appointment of Marion de Vries as the next Artistic Director of the Blyth Festival. "Making the choice of one person from a short list of people with superb skills and experience was an excruciatingly difficult task, so now, with this decision happily behind us, the Blyth Festival's Board of Directors is looking forward to the exciting years that lie ahead, with Marion as our Artistic Director," says Wendy Hoernig, Board President.

The Board of Directors of the Blyth Centre for the Arts has announced the appointment of Peter Smith as Interim Artistic Director of the Blyth Festival. Board President, Wendy Hoernig reported that the theatre had received a large number of very impressive applications. "It speaks very highly of the calibre of theatre talent in our country," she declared. "It also made the final choice extremely difficult. However we feel that we've made the right decision for this interim position. Peter is passionate about our community, our theatre and the importance of telling our stories. We are delighted to have him returning, and are all looking forward to an exciting theatre season next year."

Eric Coates will be the next Artistic Director of the Great Canadian Theatre Company, the theatre recently announced. Mr. Coates will be stepping down from his current position as the Artistic Director of the Blyth Festival, where he has worked in a variety of disciplines since 1995 and joining the GCTC team in September.
