Dead Man Walking, the powerful opera by composer Jake Heggie and librettist-playwright Terrence McNally, will have its long-awaited Lyric premiere this month. Over 2,200 students have seen GLORIA: A Life, the groundbreaking play about activist and icon Gloria Steinem, thanks to the generosity of Hope-aholics. Named for Steinem, who coined the phrase, the Hope-aholics initiative allows donors to underwrite student tickets so that the next generation of activists can take inspiration from her story. Launched in October 2018, the program has raised over $66,000 in donations in under five months.

Tony Award-winning producer Daryl Roth (Kinky Boots, The Normal Heart, Indecent) announced today that GLORIA: A Life has rescheduled its Saturday, January 19 matinee performance in order for the company to join the Women's March on NYC. A performance has been added on Sunday, January 20 at 7pm. The production will perform as scheduled at 8pm on Saturday, January 19.

San Francisco Opera presents the West Coast premiere of It's a Wonderful Life by composer Jake Heggie and librettist Gene Scheer in nine holiday-season performances from November 17 through December 9. The two-act work, a co-commission and co-production between San Francisco Opera, Houston Grand Opera and the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, is based in part on Frank Capra's 1946 film It's a Wonderful Life and The Greatest Gift, a story by Philip Van Doren Stern.
