Review: I AM NOT YOUR PERFECT MEXICAN DAUGHTER at Seattle Repertory Theatre

Every so often a show comes along that moves you in such a way that you are changed. There are some characters that you wish were real and could be part of your life. There are stories that are so good that you don’t want them to end. I AM NOT YOUR PERFECT MEXICAN DAUGHTER is that show, has those characters, and is that story.

BWW Review: QUIXOTE NUEVO at DCPA

Throughout the decades, some shows have stood the test of time while newer productions test their strength to stand among the best. And sometimes, you see a new show about an old tale that is a sight for sore eyes. In DCPA's current prodution of Quixote Nuevo, audiences are delighted to a family tale with some twists and turns that would leave even Miguel de Cervantes in stitches.

BWW Review: South Coast Repertory Revisits Classic Play OUR TOWN

Thornton Wilder's Pulitzer Prize-winning 1938 three-act play OUR TOWN has a superb new iteration now performing at South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa, CA through June 4, 2022. Directed by Beth Lopes, the show employs a wonderfully diverse cast, as it re-stages its seemingly ordinary but ultimately impactful vignettes of everyday life.

BWW Review: IN THE UPPER ROOM at DCPA is as Good as it Gets

I’m all for a period piece, especially one from the 70s - see what I did there? In the world premiere of In the Upper Room by Beaufield Berry, we meet a bunch of Berrys in their family home in Omaha, Nebraska in the 1970s. A lively crew, this family is on display in a way that is relatable…and otherworldly.

BWW Review: THE TEMPEST at Great Lakes Theater

THE TEMPEST, now on stage at Great Lakes Theatre, is thought to be Shakespeare's last known play. The script almost defies classification as it contains both tragic and comic themes, as well as romance. It explores many themes, including magic, betrayal, revenge, and family.

BWW Review: YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN at South Coast Rep

Good grief! You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown Is Live But Sadly Not Alive. A combination of miscasting, poor direction, and a play that runs out of steam, this early production in the reemergence of live theater is a disappointment.

BWW Review: Musical Ladies Triumph in the Delightful AMERICAN MARIACHI at South Coast Repertory

Serving as the gloriously buoyant 56th season-opening production at Orange County's South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa, AMERICAN MARIACHI---which continues performances through October 5, 2019---is a wonderful play about the love of family and the love for achieving personal dreams. Playwright José Cruz González's joyful, musical-leaning play combines gorgeous music with broad comedy and touching drama that gives a fresh spin to the story of pioneering women subverting expectations to achieve their dreams in a world dominated by men's old world outlook.

BWW Review: BLKS is a Triumph at Woolly Mammoth Theatre

Aziza Barne's BLKS is a stop-you-in-your-tracks, laugh-out-loud comedy that is about to take DC by storm. Barnes' electric writing powerfully celebrates, queerness, sisterhood and the implications of being 'Black and alive.' With director Nataki Garrett at the helm, the cast brings Aziza's words to life with infectious joy. My cheeks still hurt from smiling.
