 Following a review of applications, PlayPenn has shared the names of the twenty-nine emerging writers that make up the very first Playwrights Cohort at PlayPenn.

Theater Now New York, one of the nation's leading producers of original short form musicals, has selected 10 new musicals to be presented in its SOUND BITES X Festival of 10-Minute Musicals.

Tonight at 7pm, the Talking It Out Virtual Arts Festival in Support of Mental Health Awareness will begin hosting monthly poetry open-mics for writers and artists to come and share their work virtually across the world, and to watch and support the works of their fellow artists.

Joe’s Pub will present Alexis Michelle, one of the recently announced competitors on Season 8 of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars on June 27 and 28 at 9:30 PM.

Mother Lode, a play by Virginia Wall Gruenert, will return to Carnegie Stage June 3 at 8:00pm and June 4 at 3:00pm. The production stars Linda Haston, and is directed by Ingrid Sonnichsen.

TimeLine Theatre Company, acclaimed for presenting plays that explore today's social and political issues through the lens of the past, has announced its 27th season. The company's 2023-24 subscription season will launch in September with the previously announced Chicago premiere of the internationally acclaimed THE LEHMAN TRILOGY presented at Broadway In Chicago's Broadway Playhouse.

Roundabout Theatre Company has announced the third season of The Refocus Project, its multi-year project to elevate and restore marginalized plays to the American canon. This year's series of readings will feature Asian American and Pacific Islander playwrights: Prince Gomolvilas, Velina Hasu Houston, Victoria Nalani Kneubuhl, and Anuvab Pal.

The Dramatists Legal Defense Fund (DLDF) has announced the recipients of 2023 Defender Awards. By refusing to succumb to the banning of books and drag performances, both recipients are leaders in the fight against censorship and the repression of free speech that has overtaken parts of the country.

Exquisite Corpse Company will welcome playwrights Aliyah Curry, Ashley Lauren Rogers, Phillip Gregory Burke, Nelson Diaz-Marcano, Madison Wetzell, and Kaela Mei-Shing to the 2023 Writers Lab.

The In Scena! Italian Theater Festival will collaborate with the Hystrio Award - Scritture di Scena, one of the most prestigious theater awards in Italy. Since 2020, In Scena! awarded an Italian playwright, who then travels to New York to work with a local playwright and a translator on the English adaptation of their play.

Hudson Theatre Works will present Joanne Hoersch's new play, “Shelley.”   Hudson Theatre Works continues its commitment to producing one new play a year. 

From May 5 to June 10, 2023, SpeakEasy Stage will present the Boston premiere of the joyous Broadway musical comedy THE PROM, winner of the 2019 Drama Desk Award for Best Musical. 

The Fled Collective has announced complete casting for the workshop production of SWAY, written by SMJ and directed by Daniella Caggiano. The strictly limited engagement will begin performances in The Siggy at The Flea Theater on May 19 and runs through May 27. Tickets are $25 and available through Eventbrite. The Fled Collective will also be offering free tickets to patrons who identify as members of the global majority.

Jeni Mahoney, long-time Producing Artistic Director and Founder of the Seven Devils Playwrights Conference, will step down from her leadership position following the upcoming 2023 Seven Devils Playwrights Conference (in McCall, Idaho June 5 - 17, 2023).

Signature Theatre announces the cast and creative team of its world premiere production of MacArthur Fellow Branden Jacobs-Jenkins' The Comeuppance, directed by Eric Ting. Concluding Jacobs-Jenkins' Premiere Residency—and Signature's 2022-2023 season of personal and profound works from its Resident writers—The Comeuppance runs May 16–June 25.
