A brand new production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's classic THE SOUND OF MUSIC launched its national tour at the Center Theatre Group / Ahmanson Theatre last night, September 30 at 8 p.m. Directed by three-time Tony Award winner Jack O'Brien, the production closes in Los Angeles on October 31, 2015, and will then tour North America for multiple seasons, playing multi-week and week-long engagements. After an overwhelming demand, the two-time Emmy and Grammy Award-winning comedian Kathy Griffin has extended the engagement of her 'Like A Boss' Tour at the Center Theatre Group / Mark Taper Forum in Downtown Los Angeles. Originally announced for November 4 and 5, Griffin has added two more 8 p.m. performances - Friday, November 6 and Saturday, November 7.

Center Theatre Group and Playwrights Horizons have announced casting for "The Christians," a new play written by Lucas Hnath ("A Public Reading of an Unproduced Screenplay About the Death of Walt Disney," "Isaac's Eye," "Death Tax"). 

Rock musical 'Girlfriend' opened at the Center Theatre Group/Kirk Douglas Theatre last Sunday, July 19 at 6:30 p.m. Featuring a book by Todd Almond and music and lyrics by Matthew Sweet, the rock musical about first love will continue through August 9. The exclusive U.S. engagement of 'The Last Confession,' a gripping new play of intrigue and mystery by Roger Crane, starring David Suchet, opened June 11 at the Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre. The world premiere of the powerful, intense new play 'The Royale' by Marco Ramirez opened yesterday, May 5 at the CTG/Kirk Douglas Theatre. Melissa James Gibson's new play 'This' is the final production of the 2010-2011 season at the Douglas Theatre. The show began previews on July 31 and will run through August 28, 2011.

Edward L. Rada has been named the new Managing Director of Center Theatre Group, it was announced today by CTG Artistic Director/CEO Michael Ritchie.

Preview performances began this Sunday, January 30, for the five-time Tony nominated production of '33 Variations' with Jane Fonda at the Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre. '33 Variations,' written and directed by Moisés Kaufman, opens February 9 and continues through March 6, 2011.
