What did our critic think of MY FAIR LADY at Robinson Center? With a little bit of luck Broadway World was able to catch the amazing masterpiece of the Lincoln Center Theater Production of MY FAIR LADY at Robinson Center, 426 West Markham St., in Little Rock, Friday, May 19. Directed by Bartlett Sher with tour direction by Samantha Saltzman, this Lerner and Loewe classic whisked us away to London to follow a flower girl on her quest to raise her station in life. I do love a good girl-power tale, especially when it is infused with song after memorable song.

In search of new audiences, the Met has followed Terence Blanchard’s FIRE SHUT UP IN MY BONES with the jazz musician/composer’s first opera, CHAMPION, the story of closeted boxer Emile Griffith’s rise and fall from grace. Honestly, never have I heard people whose usual venues are Madison Square Garden, Yankee Stadium and Monday Night Football on ESPN talk about how they “wanted to see the new opera at the Met.”
The musical revival of My Fair Lady, that came to the National Theatre this past holiday weekend, proves that this classic musical with lyrics and book by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe is an indestructible warhorse of a show that never grows stale. Director Bartlett Sher (with tour direction by Samantha Saltzman) has reinvigorated this masterpiece of superior integration of music, lyrics and book with some salient deconstruction-- but no amount of deconstruction can take away from the emotional pull of this material.

What did our critic think of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF at Golden Gate Theatre? By the time this review posts, this phenomenal touring production of ten-time Tony award winning Fiddler on the Roof will have packed up the shtetl and hit the road after a too brief 8-show run. Unfortunate for those who could not attend because Fiddler has never been so vibrant, so full of life and amazingly prescient to the alarming rise in forced immigrant migrations and rising antisemitism.
