Doug DeVita's witty exploration of homophobia and ageism in the ad world becomes a radio play. Premiering in March. Doug DeVita's fast-paced comedy, The Fierce Urgency of Now, has multiple lives across the country. A regional favorite for some time, the play has been turned into a screenplay and is currently in development as a motion picture.

Theater Resources Unlimited has announced TRUSpeak ... Hear Our Voices! Virtual Fundraiser on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at 5pm (eastern time) via Zoom. TRUSpeak is a curated selection of short plays and musicals by TRU writers, produced by TRU producers and directed by TRU directors, all touching upon current social issues.

Live & In Color is looking for playwrights, composers, and lyricists of color and/or other underrepresented communities interested in developing their new musical. The winning musical submission will have a two-week workshop this fall at The Bingham Camp in Salem, Connecticut culminating in a staged presentation to an invited audience.

To commemorate the holidays during a year which we'd all like to see thrown under a speeding one-horse-open sleigh, new works development organization Live & In Color will be kicking it old school this month with 2020 Roasting on an Open Fire, a retro online holiday special set to premiere on Thursday, December 17 at 7p.m. EDT.

The Fresh Fruit Festival - one of New York city's most visible and acclaimed LGBTQ arts organizations - encompassing theater, performance, poetry, comedy, spoken word, music, dance, visual arts and other artistic expressions, has chosen its new artistic director. The Fresh Fruit Festival is presented by All Out Arts to celebrate the LGBTQ community's unique perspective, creativity & diversity, and to build links between the LGBTQ artistic communities - local or international.

In 2008, Reverend Vernon Jackson's Religious Broadcasting Network in Lynchburg Va. presented 'The Gay No More Telethon'. The goal: raise money to turn as many homosexuals as possible straight by the rapture or the 2014 Winter Olympics. Whichever came first. But now with the trump administration, the Supreme Court and the GOP looking to undo several advances made by the LGBTQ community since then, Reverend Jackson has seen the error of his ways and is touring the country to apologize.

Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) presents a Writer-Director Communications Lab on Saturday, April 13, 2019 from 10:00am - 6:00pm at Shetler Studios, 244 W. 54 Street PH1, New York, NY 10019. This Lab focuses on facilitating communication between writers and directors to ensure that collaborations run as smoothly as possible. Fingerman's new comedy examines the chaos of gay dating culture, skewers our need for social media, and gives voice to Adam who must now navigate an entirely new dating world while trying to figure out who he is and what's next. Aided by an oddball neighbor, a profligate friend, and his suburban sister Rachel, it's quite literally Adam minus Josh.

"Siren's Den: A New Rock Musical," will be presenting songs from the show at Theater Row's Acorn Theater, sponsored by the New York New Work's Theatre Festival on September 5th at 7pm.

A good time was had by all at Bowery Arts & Science, 310 Bowery (at First Street), in NY on Monday night, May 14 as the annual Fresh Fruit Awards were celebrated. Writer/performer, Lisa Kron and activist, Allen Roskoff, were honored with Community Service awards prior to a cavalcade of accolades for some powerful and enlightening works by new as well as established artists. Three pieces that took home multiple awards were the musical, La Maupin, the political dramedy, The Diplomats, and the semi-autobiographical play, The Phillie trilogy, which was a tour de force for several acclaimed performers.

All-Out Arts and the acclaimed Fresh Fruit Festival will celebrate notable selections from last year's Fresh Fruit Festival. 'It was a very powerful season,' said Louis Lopardi, the executive producer of the festival. 'It's fitting for our 15th year. So many amazing works,' he continued. 'And looking forward to one of most exiting seasons to come!' he concluded.
