Jazz Age Comes Alive In BULLETS OVER BROADWAY At Foothill Music TheatreJazz Age Comes Alive In BULLETS OVER BROADWAY At Foothill Music Theatre
by BWW News Desk - Jan 9, 2019

Multi-award winning Foothill Music Theatre presents Bullets Over Broadway The Musical, the Tony Award-nominated musical based on Woody Allen and Douglas McGrath's screenplay for the hit film Bullets over Broadway. A love letter to the golden age of Broadway, Bullets Over Broadway The Musical brings the classic musical comedy back with a bang. Loaded with the songs that made the 1920s roar, this splashy musical features Jazz Age standards including 'Let's Misbehave,' ''Tain't Nobody's Biz-ness If I Do,' "Tiger Rag," and 'Up a Lazy River.' In this madcap comedy, a young playwright finally gets his play produced on Broadway, but discovers there's a catch: the mobster putting up the funds wants a vehicle for his ditzy, talent-free girlfriend. Throw in an aging diva, dancing gangsters, and a bevy of beautiful chorus girls, and comedic capers ensue. Under the direction of Milissa Carey and music direction of Louis Lagalante, Bullets Over Broadway The Musical will play February 28- March 17, 2019 (press opening: March 1) with performances 7:30pm Thursdays, 8:00pm Fridays & Saturdays, and 2pm Sundays at the Lohman Theatre, 12345 El Monte Rd (I-280 & El Monte Road), Los Altos Hills. Tickets ($12 - $36) and information can be found at www.foothill.edu/theatre or by phone at (650) 949-7360. (more...)

BWW REVIEW: Atlas Circus' Lucky Delights Audiences at Dixon PlaceBWW REVIEW: Atlas Circus' Lucky Delights Audiences at Dixon Place
by Victoria Ordin - Aug 24, 2017

LUCKY, the latest production by Atlas Circus, follows the life of a young man in 20th-century New York City, as he tries to find his literal and figurative center. Created and directed by Tommy McCarthy, a graduate of Muhlenberg College with 14 years of dance training (at the Joffrey and Boston Ballet, as well as Muhlenberg), the show consists of eleven comic vignettes. Two of the performers (Evans and Avery Deutsch), along with much of the crew, are Muhlenberg alumni, which may explain the palpable camaderie among Atlas Circus members. Leo Abel graduated from Ivaldo Bertazzo's school of dance and acting and worked in experimental theater for ten years, fusing dance, circus, singing, and puppetry. Russel Norris (who has appeared at Theater for the New City, Stairwell Theater, Brave New World Rep, among others) rounds out the talented cast. (more...)

BWW Review: Uncomfortably Hilarious AVENUE Q Opens at Amelia Community TheaterBWW Review: Uncomfortably Hilarious AVENUE Q Opens at Amelia Community Theater
by Heather Vollman - Aug 11, 2017

"What Do You Do With a B.A. in English?" is the strikingly articulate song that follows the opening number of AVENUE Q, which opened last night at Amelia Community Theatre. I uncomfortably shifted in my seat, as my B.A. is…also in English (insert face-plant emoji). AVENUE Q, winner of three Tony Awards (including Best Musical), is a blunt, provocative, and at times hilarious, coming-of-age tale of how much it sucks to grow up and be an adult, told through the lens of jaded and satirical puppets and humans, who live in what is described as an "Outer-outer borough of New York City). Basically, it's X-rated Sesame Street. Music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, with book by Jeff Whitty, this musical has received favorable acclaim nationally and internationally alike.
