Would you believe that Jesus Christ Superstar has been a part of our musical theatre repertoire for 50 years now? That almost stops me in my tracks as I can recall singing choral arrangements of this production when I was but a budding and promising middle school student. Songs such as 'What's the Buzz', 'I Don't Know How to Love Him' and the title song have been part of the shaping of many a young singer.

On Friday, January 17, I had the pleasure of seeing 8-TRACK THE SOUNDS OF THE 70S at the Connecticut Cabaret Theatre in Berlin, CT.  This new musical conceived by Rick Seeber constitutes performances of mainstream United States chart-topping songs from the 1970s.  Incredibly talented singers Jason Beaulieu, Dan Frye, Emily Gray, and Erica Whitfield have excellent stage chemistry and vocal harmony with each other in this musical event under the wonderful direction of Kris McMurray.

American singer-songwriter, guitarist, multi-instrumentalist and producer Jonny Polonsky has announced his new album 'Kingdom of Sleep', scheduled for release on March 6, 2020. Ahead of that, he presents the lead single 'The Weeping Souls'. Self-produced by Polonsky, this album was mixed and mastered by Mike Tholen (Chris Connelly, Revolting c*cks).

Brooklyn-based performer, Raquel Cion, is coming back for a January-March 2020 residency of her cabaret, Me & Mr. Jones: My Intimate Relationship with David Bowie at Pangea, located at 178 Second Avenue New York, NY 10003. The 90-minute cabaret explores the lifelong a?oesoul lovea?? that Cion has for David Bowie's artistry and David Jones's humanity.

This winter and spring, Joe's Pub a?" a program and venue of The Public Theater a?" is honoring new voices in musical theater through a variety of shows. From Broadway performers in concert to new musicals presented in the concert setting, there's something for every fan of musicals happening this season. Audiences are invited to celebrate the art of musical theater in non-conventional yet intimate ways with returning artists and new faces alike at Joe's Pub.

Prior to the Stingray's street date, Bray will also release the latest Bray & the Dens video “Enemy Lines” on January 17. After the “Enemy Lines” video is released, Bray will follow it up with the first single and video from Stingray called “Be Your Own Surgeon,” due out in mid-February prior to the full album's release. According to Bray, “The title says it all at this point. I don't want to give too much away about the video yet, but it will definitely be a kick!”

Today, New York City-based band The Wants -- Madison Velding-VanDam (vocals, guitar, synth), Jason Gates (drums, live electronics), and Heather Elle (vocals, bass,synth) -- share new single 'The Motor', and announce their debut full-length, Container. In support and anticipation of the upcoming album release, The Wants head out on a UK tour next month, and are playing select NYC dates in anticipation of a US tour soon to be announced. Container LP is due out March 13th, 2020 via UK-based Council Records (pre-order here).

The historic home to music, dance, family programs and art is presenting a dynamic array of concerts, workshops and other engaging activities.

We would be going against Broadway World's nature, if we were to suggest that we don't have a soft spot for musical theatre. So you know we just couldn't miss this production of Cabaret.

Ivo van Hove might be busy at the Broadway Theatre as the director of the new revival of West Side Story, but his creative energy will move to a new project this spring.

a?oeMe & Mr. Jones,a?? Raquel Cion's Pangea-incubated nightclub ode to David Bowie, returns to Pangea for a three-month theatrical engagement from January 16 to March 14. Written and performed by Cion, directed by Cynthia Cahill, with music director Karl Saint Lucy on piano, the deeply personal exploration of Bowie's life of music and invention also features the musicians Jeremy Bass (guitar), Michael Ryan Morales (drums), and Daniel Shuman (bass).
