According to The New York Times, JACK is moving on up! The interdisciplinary performance space has signed a 10-year lease to move into a larger home.

Sloan Foundation (Doron Weber, Vice-President, Programs) announced today that due to unprecedented and overwhelming response, the World Premiere of Behind the Sheet has been extended for a third time. Part of the EST/Sloan Science & Technology Project (Graeme Gillis, Program Director; Linsay Firman, Associate Director), Behind the Sheet is written by Charly Evon Simpson (Jump) and directed by Colette Robert (Mary's Wedding).

BEHIND THE SHEET Extends Again At Ensemble Studio Theatre

Ensemble Studio Theatre (EST) (William Carden, Artistic Director, Sarah McLellan, Executive Director) and The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation (Doron Weber, Vice-President, Programs) announced today a second extension for the World Premiere of Behind the Sheet, written by Charly Evon Simpson (Jump) and directed by Colette Robert (Mary's Wedding). Part of the EST/Sloan Science & Technology Project (Graeme Gillis, Program Director; Linsay Firman, Associate Director), Behind the Sheet began previews at EST's Curt Dempster Theatre (549 W. 52nd Street, New York, NY 10019) on January 9, 2019, and opened January 17. Originally set to close on February 3, the play will now run through February 17, 2019.

The Exponential Festival 2019 Presents DUET-ED

The Exponential Festival, a month-long January festival for NYC-based emerging artists working in experimental performance, is proud to present the world premiere production of Duet-ed by What Holds Heat. What Holds Heat is a collaboration between Nic Adams (Icarus in the L.E.S.) and Cori Marquis (Cori Marquis + the Nines [IX] and LMnO3). Of their works, they write, "Our kinetic and experiential works of performance seek to extend the boundaries of theatre and expand its power for our audience. Our ensemble-based theatre prioritizes impressionistic storytelling, with subjects ranging from the intimate to the fantastical, while always being grounded in the complexity of human relationships." Since 2015, What Holds Heat has produced three original works for the stage, at venues like Dixon Place, The Bushwick Starr (as part of Target Margin Theater's Stein Labs), and Vital Joint.

D3C Stages Holiday Benefit For Transgender Law Center

Dialogue with Three Chords (D3C) will present A CHRISTMAS BESTIARY on Thursday, November 29, at 8pm downstairs at Von Bar on 3 Bleecker Street, New York, NY 10012. Admission is free, with a $5 suggested donation to Transgender Law Center. Acoustic Riot Grrrl Punk band Dolltits will perform. The series of short performances, written by Stephen Gracia and directed by Michael LoPorto, find characters at different crossroad points within their lives and feature a variety of mythical holiday monsters.

The Exponential Festival, a month-long January festival for NYC-based emerging, experimental performing artists, is proud to announce the lineup of artists and venues for its fourth year of programming. Performances will take place January 4 - February 3 in partnership with The Brick, Chez Bushwick, The Glove, JACK, Target Margin Theater's The Doxsee, Triskelion's Douglas Elliman Studio Theater and Vital Joint. Panels will take place at The Bushwick Starr. The participants in this multi-artist, multi-venue festival are committed to ecstatic creativity in the face of commercialism. Exponential is driven by inclusiveness and a diversity of artists, forms, and ideas coupled with utopian resource-sharing, mentoring, and the championing of risky, rigorous work in eclectic fields to keep theatre kicking.

New York Stage and Film has announced that Donja R. Love's soft will be the second installation in their NYC Reading Series at Barnard College, held on Monday, October 29th at 7:00pm at the Glicker-Milstein Theater at The Diana Center. Directed by Awoye Timpo, the cast of soft features Gabriel Diego Hernandez, Galen Ryan Kane, Obie and AUDELCO Award winner Russell G. Jones, Andy Lucien, Joshua E. The Danger: A Homage to Strange Fruit is a theatrical symphony in four movements that contemplates the legacy of violence against Black bodies in America. Inspired by the mysterious hanging death of 17-year-old Lennon Lacy in 2014 in Bladenboro, NC, this dystopic ghost play follows the interracial couple He and She into the world of The Station, a long ago abandoned rail station waiting room, an in-between place that houses Black souls who left the earth in violent ways and who constantly seek their way home. In 2015, Rose received NYU's Rita Goldberg Prize for The Danger -- an award recognizing the best play by a graduate or undergraduate student.

Oye Group's Annual Showcase Comes to JACK

Now in its fourth year, Oye Group's annual showcase features radical artists turning up the volume on revolutionary imagination. This year, Cristina Pitter, Jaime Sunwoo, Drew Weinstein, Haleh Roshan, Teddy Tedholm and Animal Engine explore 'The Other,' with performances tackling queerness, colorism, body image, immigration, national and cultural identity, military invasions, colonialism and mental wellness. Led by Oye Group Artistic Director & Founder Modesto Flako Jimenez, and curated by Artem Yatsunov, OYE Avant Garde Night! connects emerging artists with community around the critical issues of our day.

In our 8th year of BGT, our student playwrights from PS75 and IS77 are focusing on the theme of 'Home', contemplating what we love about our own homes and neighborhoods, and what we wish could change about them.
