Review: IT IS MAGIC at Catastrophic Theatre
by Brett Cullum - Feb 16, 2024

IT IS MAGIC is far from false advertising because this play, this cast, and this team make some pretty strong magic from Mickle Maher’s latest play. Just sit back, relax, and let it all wash over you is my advice. It’s funny, it’s quirky, and it is unlike anything else you are likely to see anytime soon. CATASTROPHIC THEATRE has always promised to destroy us, and they seem to be inching closer and closer… and closer. This is the next step in their nefarious plan.

Review: 4th Wall Theatre Company Strikes a Spooky Chord in Lucas Hnath's THE THIN PLACE
by Armando Urdiales - Nov 2, 2022

Two chairs, a side table, and a lone actress on stage begins 4th Wall Theatre’s production of Lucas Hnath’s The Thin Place. BWW Review: FEFU AND HER FRIENDS REIGN AT CATASTROPHIC THEATRE
by Suzanne Tidwell - Feb 24, 2020

FEFU AND HER FRIENDS passes the Bechdel test with glowing colors a?" there are no men seen, and only mentioned briefly, even though we feel their presence as plot catalysts. As these women make soup, have water fights and practice French, read aloud from magazines and eat bourbon popsicles, cry and laugh and struggle, they mostly talk about what it is like to be women. How to make space for themselves, and hold space for other women. That is a rare thing.

Over the years, The Catastrophic Theatre (and its predecessor Infernal Bridegroom Productions) have produced Fornes's The Danube and MUD, to much critical acclaim. Fefu and Her Friends runs February 14 a?" BWW Review: RAPTURE, BLISTER, BURN raises a feminist eyebrow at 4TH Wall Theatre Company
by Brett Cullum - Mar 2, 2019

It has a lot to offer audiences, and women will appreciate the portrayal of their struggle to choose which path they should take. There is the traditional one including a family, as well as the ambitious career-centered one that risks not having that. What do women really want? And are they game enough to go for it once they realize what it is.

by Julie Musbach - Feb 28, 2019

Hot off the heels of sellout smash "Pride and Prejudice," 4th Wall Theatre Company is starting 2019 with another Houston premiere, "Rapture, Blister, Burn" by Gina Gionfriddo. This 2013 Pulitzer Prize Finalist is a comedic but unflinching look at gender politics in the wake of fourth-wave feminism.

BWW Review: Fortune favors the bold in Kate Hamill's PRIDE & PREJUDICE
by Katricia Lang - Dec 28, 2018

What can I say about the 4th Wall production of Kate Hamill's PRIDE & PREJUDICE? I dig it.

Photo Flash: 4th Wall Continues Season of Houston Premieres with Kate Hamill's PRIDE & PREJUDICE
by A.A. Cristi - Nov 30, 2018

Longtime home for cutting-edge live performances, 4th Wall Theatre Company is thrilled to follow the success of September's 'Jesus Hopped the 'A' Train' with another Houston premiere, 'Pride and Prejudice.' Kate Hamill's new adaptation of the novel by Jane Austen reframes the classic inside a modern lens, creating a playful comedy that feels as timely today as it did in Regency-era England. Hamill's lively work ran Off-Broadway last year to critical acclaim and is now receiving its Houston debut, just in time for the holiday season.

BWW Review: Catastrophic's CURSE OF THE STARVING CLASS Is the Most Beautiful Dysfunction You'll Ever See
by Audrey Morabito - Oct 2, 2018

Pulitzer Prize-Winnng Sam Shepard's CURSE OF THE STARVING CLASS displays the lives of the working-class Tate family as they navigate everything from suffocating debt, to teenage crime, to marital distress and back again. Checking the fridge for food (that is never there) is a regular routine-turned-ritual in this household that is deteriorating from the inside out. Shepard's play explores what it means to be trapped in the cycle of the starving class. He writes about a family cursed by an outside force, a force that leaves the individuals involved no option to dissociate themselves from the identifying feature of the cursed: the familial bloodline.
