Irish West End and Broadway actors and creatives to return to Ireland to help train the next generation of musical theatre stars.

People get VERY worked up about their precious Les Miserables- case in point, I saw a seven-year-old boy two rows in front of me, dressed in a full Javert costume at the Benedum stop of the national tour. It is so well-known and so well-loved that even if you're not a theatre person you probably know at least a few of the best-known songs, like 'On My Own' and 'Bring Him Home' from constant media saturation. Others you'd recognize from reference and parody: nearly every send-up of musicals from the 1980s on has spoofed 'One Day More' and its increasingly complex but rousing counterpoint.

Today BroadwayWorld Toronto is celebrating the anniversay of the now legendary Toronto production of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA which starred Rebecca Caine as Christine and Colm Wilkinson in the title role. The production, which ran for a decade and holds the record as the longest running musical in Toronto helped revitalize a struggling Canadian theatre scene and resulted in a surge of Canadian produced musical theatre.

One of Tweed & Company Theatre's most popular evenings of entertainment, THE DARK NIGHT CABARET, is returning this September 28th, and it is shaping up to be the most exciting one yet! I must applaud Everyman Theatre's Artistic Director Vince Lancisi for having the brilliant idea of ending its season with two plays by Caleen Sinnette Jennings in repertory: QUEENS GIRL IN THE WORLD and QUEENS GIRL IN AFRICA. What a genius!

Canadian actor and singer Tim Howar's past work includes Les Miserables, The Who's Tommy, Chess, and the 10th Anniversary production of Rent. He's also in the band Mike + The Mechanics. Currently, he's tackling one of the most iconic roles in musical theatre: playing the Phantom in the West End production.

Oh my god, I have literally nothing to say about Les Miz. Well, maybe not nothing... not literally! It's not gonna be hard to throw these out, I'll tell you that much. I have so many freaking Les Miz CDs and they all take up so much space at two--even three--discs a pop. There is probably little to say or write about Les Miserables that has not already been said or written. Claude-Michel Schonberg's epic musical, based on Victor Hugo's equally epic 1862 novel, first captured audiences' imaginations as a concept piece in France in 1980. Since the reimagined English language version starring Colm Wilkinson and Patti LuPone premiered in London in 1985, productions, special concert events and revivals have sprung up throughout the world, including on Broadway, where the show's original run lasted over 16 years and it has twice been revived. Les Miserables has also been adapted for film, including the 2012 musical version, which starred the likes of Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Eddie Redmayne, and garnered Anne Hathaway an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Indeed, after more than 30 years as part of our cultural lexicon, Les Miserables remains a musical theater juggernaut, whose enduring themes of redemption, loyalty and love, incredible score and sheer longevity imbue it with an unmatched sense of gravitas.
