Featuring previous singles such as ‘song goes on’, ‘december’, ‘off my mind’ and ‘where you feel’, KELI all started with heartbreak and was born out of the ashes of a break-up and came into existence in a tiny bedroom in a Waterloo apartment, overlooking Sydney’s Eastern Distributor motorway.
Maria has released a few solo and collaborative records, but her forthcoming album, Forest City feels like the turning of a page as she liberates herself from the structures of jazz. Forest City was recorded and self-produced between her bedroom and her studio, with the help of In a Sleeping Mood and mixing engineer Alex Killpartrick.
The album features 19 instrumental tracks including “City Lights” which was performed at the online edition of the Mrož festival 2020 and a 2021 remix of the previously released track “The Mysterious Trip.” The atmosphere of the album was created by using the Sound Design recording technique through the use of hardware and software synthesizers.
The near-perfect production runs April 1, 3, and 5, a strictly limited engagement that will be talked about for years to come.
In the spring of 2020 when the pandemic took hold and concert venues were closing their doors, the Morris Museum opened its parking lot. Curatorial Director, Brett Wellman Messenger, took a tape measure and chalk and drew 119 blocks, 8ft square each and a new outdoor performance venue was born.
