Amidst an apocalyptic background and growing fears about the survival of theatre as an artform, Root Beer Occasion Theatre Company, LLC has been formed! RBO is a Brooklyn-based company determined to create real theatre experiences despite any and all obstacles; to reject snobbishness and empty art in favor of honesty, truth, and vulnerability; and to foster sustainable theatre that is both affordable and accessible.
Even though the curtain's down, the show must go on! 'The Latest Draft' is a podcast celebrating new works from the next generation of great musical theatre authors. Weekly episodes will feature podcast musicals by book writers, lyricists, and composers from around the world.
Dixon Place will present Tin Pan Alley 2, a free concert series featuring new musical theatre works on Friday, July 10, 2020 at 7:30pm, as a part of its 2020 HOT! Festival programming. The 2020 HOT! Festival edition will be showcasing new works by LGBTQI+ writers Gabriella Balsam, Josh Ben-Ami, and Matthew V. Stolfi, and hosted by Durra Leung and Sam Rosenblatt. The streaming is free.
New original musical webseries, 'IS THIS ART NOW: A Musical in the Time of Corona' launched on Sunday, May 3rd. Written and directed by NYU Tisch Graduate Musical Theatre Writing students James Salem and Jessie Field, 'IS THIS ART NOW' documents life in quarantine for friends trying to connect over zoom and write a musical webseries about friends trying to connect over zoom and write a musical webseries about... well, you get it! Funny, charming, heart-warming, and at times surprisingly deep - this new musical theatre-esque virtual romp features original songs, stellar vocal performances, and a candid look at quarantined life for young artists. New episodes will drop every evening at 7pm, for the week of May 3rd.
