Ecce Ensemble to Perform at Brandeis & DiMenna Center, 5/1 & 5/15

Culminating what has been a banner year for the Ecce Ensemble, the group, headed by composer John Aylward, will perform world premieres by Yu-Hui Chang and Schuyler Tsuda (Barlow Commission). Also featured will be works by Ge?rard Grisey, Mark Andre, Liza Lim and emerging composers, Jose? Manuel Serrano and Colin Tucker, whose works were selected from an international call for scores. Having just completed spring residencies at New England Conservatory and the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC), the Ecce Ensemble is primed for two spectacular performances on May 1st at Brandeis University and May 15th at The DiMenna Center for Classical Music.

The Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), the nation's premier orchestra dedicated exclusively to commissioning, performing, and recording new orchestral music, partners with The Fine Family, The Irving Fine Society, and Brandeis University and its Department of Music to pay tribute to three central figures of the mid-century Boston musical landscape - Irving Fine, Harold Shapero and Arthur Berger. Celebrating Irving Fine's (1914-1962) centennial, BMOP spotlights this trio of lifelong friends and composers who advanced a unique vision for American music that incorporated the neoclassicism of Stravinsky, the clean elegance of Copland, and the edginess of serialism, all with a highly personal stamp. Andre Watts performs at Meany Hall tonight, April 15, 2014 at 7:30pm. This performance was originally scheduled for November 7, 2013. Patrons holding tickets to the November 7 performance may use their tickets for the April 15 date. Tickets are $50-55. The UW World Series also offers up to two Free Youth Tickets (ages 5-17 only) with the purchase of a Regular Price ticket. Tickets may be purchased by phone at 206-543-4880, online at uwworldseries.org, or in person at the UW Arts Ticket Office. Meany Hall is located on the Seattle campus of the University of Washington.

In Rebeck's new comedy, two kings get together and place a wager on their fools - a jester competition, and the funniest one gets to keep his head. Two evil minions have a lot to say about this, but not as much as the kitchen wench. And what's the queen been up to all night? Brandeis University's MusicUnites US World Music Series presents Trio Da Kali, three outstanding musicians from the Mande griot culture of southern Mali, in concert on March 1, 2014 at 8:00 pm in the Slosberg Recital Hall. Brought together for the first time at the BBC Proms in London in 2013, the trio combines the deep, vibrant voice of Hawa Kasse Mady Diabate, daughter of legendary singer Kasse Mady Diabate, the dazzling virtuoso balafon playing of Fode Lassana Diabate (Symmetric Orchestra, AfroCubism), and Mamadou Kouyate providing brilliant bass lines in the tradition of his father, ngoni maestro Bassekou Kouyate.

Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre, professional Theatre in Residence at the Oakes Center in Summit, is presenting the New Jersey premiere of Kate Fodor's Rx. This romantic comedy is coming to Dreamcatcher fresh from its recent Off-Broadway run at Primary Stages in New York City. Rx plays February 13 through March 2, with talkbacks following the February 16 and 23 matinees.
