Ma-Yi Theater Company to Premiere Hansol Jung's AMONG THE DEAD This Fall

AMONG THE DEAD, a new play by Hansol Jung, will be given its world premiere by the award-winning Asian American Off-Broadway MA-YI THEATER COMPANY at HERE (145 Sixth Avenue, NYC), with previews set to begin November 6th prior to its official opening night on November 10th.

A world-premiere play, Among the Dead by Hansol Jung; a world-premiere musical by Michi Barall, Paul Lieber, and Matt Park, PEER GYNT & the Norwegian Hapa Band; and the special presentation of the hit play The Wong Kids in the Secret of the Space Chupacabra Go! by Lloyd Suh in Manila comprise the season to be produced by Ma-Yi Theater Company during their 2016-2017 season, it is announced by the company's Producing Artistic Director Ralph B. Peña and Executive Director Jorge Z. Ortoll.

REP Co-Founder and Artistic Director Sam Woodhouse directs this play that the New York Times calls 'intensely smart and immensely funny,' and has been called 'a smart, funny, and lightning-paced look at feminism' by New York Daily News. The show's run began on Thursday, April 21, 2016 and plays through Sunday, May 15, 2016 with an opening night tonight, April 27, 2016 at 7 p.m. in the Lyceum Space Theatre at San Diego REP in Horton Plaza.

James Franco Teams with Scott Haze to Create Rattlestick West Theatre

While working on a play at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater in 2014, Scott Haze and Broadway veteran James Franco decided to join forces with David Van Asselt, Artistic Director of Rattlestick, to create Rattlestick West. Rattlestick, known for its work with emerging American artists, has produced over 90 world premieres in its 20 year history. Haze, founder of The Sherry Theater in Los Angeles, brought in his producing partner Lukas Behnken and the Sherry team with over 10 years of doing theater in LA to form this new bi-coastal collective.

Her profound and powerful new play became an award-winning hit in London and New York. Now renowned director Jonathan Moscone brings it to Berkeley Rep this April for its Bay Area premiere. Tribes follows Billy, a young man who was born deaf into a loquacious and highly opinionated academic family who raised him to lip-read and integrate into the hearing world. When he meets Sylvia - raised by Deaf parents and going deaf herself - Billy decides it's time to speak on his own terms and to be heard. Playing out in words, sign language, and sometimes mesmerizing silence, this penetrating drama examines familial love, notions of belonging, and the intersections of communication. Noel Coward's THE VORTEX Opens 4/11 at Malibu Playhouse

The third play in MALIBU PLAYHOUSE's 2013-2014 season will be The Vortex by Noel Coward, opening Friday, April 11, 2014. The play will be directed by Artistic Director Gene Franklin Smith and stars Shannon Holt and Craig Robert Young.
