I understand why actors have a passive-aggressive relationship with critics. Over 30+ years of reviewing regional theatre, some don't make eye contact with me when they feel I have slighted or criticized them unfairly in a previous review…or worse yet…never mentioned them!

On Friday, October 26, the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey held its annual fall fundraising event, Bourbon Bash: Going Hog Wild for Art, with the unique theme contributing to a fun party atmosphere in the Art Center studios and galleries. Nearly $30,000 was raised through a combination of ticket sales, sponsorships, and revenue from a silent art auction featuring work created by outsider and self-taught artists.
I'm a bit surprised that the News Journal did not report a run on Scottish plaid leading up to Candlelight's opening of BRIGADOON. The tartans from the various clans made for a colorful array by Costumer Tara Bowers and surely enriched the production.
There is a legend that once every hundred years in the Scottish highlands the village of Brigadoon awakens and its awakening enthralls with its mystery, delightful characters, and a love story that transcends time. Directed by Bob Kelly, Candlelight's Brigadoon features Andy Boettcher and Jared Calhoun as adventurers Tommy Albright and Jeff Douglas who find themselves lost in the highlands when Brigadoon comes to life. Sophie Jones plays Fiona MacLaren who is at once smitten with Tommy, Analisa Wall is the feisty Meg Brockie who sets her eye on Jeff Douglas.
There is a legend that once every hundred years in the Scottish Highlands the village of BRIGADOON awakens - for one day only. Its centennial bewitches with mystery, delightful characters speaking in enchanting Scottish brogue, kilts, sword dancing and, of course, a love story.
