On March 21, 1953, Langston Hughes, celebrated as the Poet Laureate of Harlem, received a summons to appear before the Senate Permanent Sub Committee on Investigations on Un-American Activities, and went to Washington to be questioned by Joseph McCarthy and the rest of his committee. Playwright Carlyle Brown has used this historical incident to create a lyrical and thought-provoking piece centered around the hours before his appearance, and of the appearance itself, in Are You Now, or Have You Ever Been..., which will begin a 4-week regional premiere run at Stage West today, February 14.

An evocative and sweeping musical tale of the epic battle between good and evil, Jekyll & Hyde is based on Robert Louis Stevenson's classic story about a brilliant doctor whose experiments with human personality create a murderous counterpart. WaterTower Theatre Artistic Director Joanie Schultz today announced casting and creative team details for the Regional Premiere of Pride and Prejudice by Kate Hamill, adapted from the Novel by Jane Austen, and the World Premiere of The Great Distance Home, conceived and directed by Kelsey Leigh Ervi. Pride and Prejudice will be directed by Joanie Schultz, and will kick off her inaugural 2017-2018 Season.

There's a fabulous party going on at the Kalita Humphreys Theatre hosted by Uptown Players and, as is often the case with this acting troupe, the festivities include drag queens, glitter, and a whole lot of laughter. Although not everyone on the guest list is a solid ten, the hosts have pulled out all the stops to guarantee a great evening. This serves as your invitation to come and join the denizens of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES!

When ROCK OF AGES (the stage musical…not the dreadful movie) debuted on Broadway in 2014, they were 'Living on a Prayer' that they'd find enough middle-aged former frat guys and metal heads willing to rock out on The Great White Way, but after 2,328 New York performances of people saying 'I Wanna Rock' at the box office, it was clear that they'd gotten 'High Enough' to be a bonafide Broadway hit. [If this is too many 80's puns for you, then ROCK OF AGES probably isn't up your alley, dude.] Now appearing in regional theaters across the country, the musical is nice break from safer titles like JOSEPH, GUYS AND DOLLS or THE MUSIC MAN, which have overly peppered each season at [fill in the blank theatre company]. And although those more familiar shows might find greater success in the Fort Worth dome, this exceptional approach by Casa Manana is a great effort that should be applauded and rewarded by people wanting to see something other than SOUND OF MUSIC.

Amphibian Stage Productions announces the cast and creative team for its second main stage play of the 2017 season, The Trap by Kieran Lynn. Starring Justin Lemieux (Tom) and Sarah Rutan (Clem), the play runs Friday, April 28 through Sunday, May 21 at the Berlene T. and Jarrell R. Milburn Theatre at Amphibian Stage Productions. Supporting cast includes Bob Hess (Alan) and Cara Serber (Meryl).
