HIR Begins Performances At Stage West, 5/17

Picture if you will, the classic American family. A son in the military, a tomboyish daughter, a typical housewife mom, a Joe-the-Plumber father.  But in Taylor Mac's subversive and outrageous comedy, HIR, this archetypal group gets completely turned inside-out in a 5-week regional premiere run at Stage West beginning Thursday, May 17.

JEKYLL AND HYDE Comes to Casa Manana

BWW Review: LA CAGE AUX FOLLES at Uptown Players

There's a fabulous party going on at the Kalita Humphreys Theatre hosted by Uptown Players and, as is often the case with this acting troupe, the festivities include drag queens, glitter, and a whole lot of laughter. Although not everyone on the guest list is a solid ten, the hosts have pulled out all the stops to guarantee a great evening. This serves as your invitation to come and join the denizens of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES!

BWW Review: ROCK OF AGES at Casa Manana

When ROCK OF AGES (the stage musical…not the dreadful movie) debuted on Broadway in 2014, they were 'Living on a Prayer' that they'd find enough middle-aged former frat guys and metal heads willing to rock out on The Great White Way, but after 2,328 New York performances of people saying 'I Wanna Rock' at the box office, it was clear that they'd gotten 'High Enough' to be a bonafide Broadway hit. [If this is too many 80's puns for you, then ROCK OF AGES probably isn't up your alley, dude.] Now appearing in regional theaters across the country, the musical is nice break from safer titles like JOSEPH, GUYS AND DOLLS or THE MUSIC MAN, which have overly peppered each season at [fill in the blank theatre company]. And although those more familiar shows might find greater success in the Fort Worth dome, this exceptional approach by Casa Manana is a great effort that should be applauded and rewarded by people wanting to see something other than SOUND OF MUSIC.

ROCK OF AGES Comes to Casa Manana This June

Casa Mañana Theatre wraps up its 2016-17 Broadway season with  the Tony Award-nominated Broadway Musical Rock of Ages, June 3-11, 2017. Tickets are on sale now.

BWW Review: CityRep Has An Incandescent Hit On Their Hands with MR. BURNS, A POST-ELECTRIC PLAY

Last weekend, CityRep opened MR. BURNS, A POST-ELECTRIC PLAY at the downtown Civic Center. A co-production with Oklahoma City University, featuring up-and-coming student artists and professional Equity actors on equal footing, the CityRep production of Anne Washburn's delightfully unconventional script is one of my favorite shows the company has produced in recent memory. CityRep has a hit on their hands. I hope the lack of familiarity with the title doesn't discourage audience attendance-this play is one of the most-produced in regional theaters around the country this season, and for good reason. The only drawback is that the play is only around for one more weekend. I applaud CityRep and OCU for introducing such thought-provoking art to the heartland, and hope you, dear reader, flock to the theater in droves to experience the magic.

BWW Interview: Cast and Creatives of CityRep's MR. BURNS Discuss the 'Average, Everyday, Post-Apocalyptic, Mind-Bending' Oklahoma Premiere Production

CityRep presents the Oklahoma premiere of the Off-Broadway hit MR. BURNS, A POST ELECTRIC PLAY. Members of the cast (Bob Hess, Kris Schinske, and Paul T. Taylor) and creative team (Donald Jordan and Daniel Leeman Smith) sat down with BroadwayWorld to discuss the relevance and delightful absurdity of their upcoming show, opening this week and running through March 5th.

Photo Flash: Inside Look at Rehearsals for Circle Theatre's DON'T TALK TO THE ACTORS

The third play in Circle Theatre's 35th anniversary season is Tom Dudzick's backstage comedy, Don't Talk to the Actors. A budding playwright's dreams are swept away into a theatrical nightmare when his play is optioned for Broadway. Mr. Dudzicks's semi-autobiographical tale is bound to be another fan favorite at Circle, like his previous productions Over the Tavern (2005); The Last Mass at St. Casimir's (2007); Hail Mary! (2009); and Miracle on South Division Street (2013).
