Audible Inc. has announced full casting for the new stage production of the Eugene O’Neill epic Long Day’s Journey into Night, directed by Tony Award nominee Robert O’Hara, premiering at Audible Theater’s Minetta Lane Theatre in January 2022.

The film follows author Ben Mears as he returns to his childhood home of Jerusalem’s Lot in search of inspiration for his next book. Upon his arrival, he discovers his hometown is being preyed upon by a bloodthirsty vampire. 

Written and directed by Rebecca Hall, the film follows the story of two Black women, Irene Redfield (Tessa Thompson) and Clare Kendry (Academy Award nominee Ruth Negga), who can “pass” as white but choose to live on opposite sides of the color line during the height of the Harlem Renaissance in late 1920s New York.

A new slate of fall programming has been announced for Audible Theater, including three more shows staged live at the Minetta Lane Theatre and four Audible Originals. Highlights include: And So We Walked, An Evening with Solea Pfeiffer, and Approval Junkie.

The series also stars Maura Tierney, David Alvarez, Bill Camp, and Julia Mayorga. The first episode can now be viewed for free on YouTube!

The series stars Emmy winner and Tony nominee Jeff Daniels (THE COMEY RULE, The Newsroom, Godless, The Looming Tower) and award-winning actress and Emmy nominee Maura Tierney (YOUR HONOR, THE AFFAIR, The Report, Beautiful Boy). 

Nominees include Leslie Odom Jr., Renée Elise Goldsberry, Bryan Cranston, Colton Domingo, and more.

Theatre for a New Audience will present a new virtual production of The Oresteia, the New York premiere of Ellen McLaughlin’s adaptation and translation of Aeschylus’ trilogy, featuring music composed by Kamala Sankaram, directed by Andrew Watkins (TFANA, as Assistant Director: The Winter's Tale, The Skin of Our Teeth, The Father, A Doll's House).

The season will consist of nine episodes.

Theatre for a New Audience announces details of its Spring Gala Celebrating Shakespeare's Birthday and online silent auction, held virtually and emceed by actor and TFANA Board Member Harry Lennix.  

Viola Davis and the late Chadwick Boseman were also honored with nominations for their roles in the film adaptation of August Wilson's 'Ma Rainey's Black Bottom'; the whole ensemble cast was also nominated in the aforementioned cast category.

Theatre for a New Audience presents First Love, a theatricalization for Zoom of Samuel Beckett's short story of the same name, directed by six-time OBIE winner JoAnne Akalaitis and performed by Tony and Emmy Award nominee Bill Camp (Broadway: Death of a Salesman, The Crucible; TV: The Queen's Gambit, The Night Of). The creative team includes Eamonn Farrell (Video Design), Jennifer Tipton (Lighting Design) and Kaye Voyce (Scenic and Costume Design).

Former 'Hamilton' co-stars Leslie Odom Jr. and Daveed Diggs have been honored with Screen Actors Guild Award nominations this morning! 

The nonprofit Sundance Institute announced today the showcase of new independent work selected across the Feature Film, Short Film, Indie Series and New Frontier categories for the 2021 Sundance Film Festival.

While not exactly a moment of déjà vu, I did feel a sense of the familiar while listening to director Saheem Ali's new podcast production of Anne Washburn's provocative play of Trump-era liberal ideology, SHIPWRECK, subtitled 'a History Play about 2017'. It was followed almost immediately by an internal debate as to whether or not it was okay to mention in in this review.
