Portland Opera continues the 2021/22 season with The Central Park Five, composed by Anthony Davis with a libretto by Richard Wesley. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2020, The Central Park Five is set in New York City in the late 80s—when five Black and Latino teenagers were falsely accused of rape and assault and coerced into confession. Their high-profile case spiraled out of control, turning the accused, and their families, into victims of prejudice and grave injustice.  

Rob Richardson (Broadway: Jekyll & Hyde, Tale of Two Cities) and Haley Swindal (Broadway: Chicago, Jekyll & Hyde) will head the industry presentations of Roy O’Neil’s Save The Palace on Thursday, October 21 at 2 PM & 6:30 PM.

The Cathedral of St. John the Divine announces the world premiere of a new transcription and performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony by David Briggs, organ virtuoso and Cathedral Artist in Residence, on Tuesday, October 19 at 7:30 pm at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, 1047 Amsterdam Avenue (at 112th Street).

The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, located at 1047 Amsterdam Avenue (at 112th Street), will present the eleventh season of Great Music in a Great Space under the direction of Kent Tritle, Director of Cathedral Music and Organist.

Kent Tritle's 2021-22 season schedule features a full slate of events: he leads five concerts at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine with the Cathedral Choir, four with Oratorio Society of New York, four with Musica Sacra, and three with groups at the Manhattan School of Music.

The New York Choral Society, New York's pioneering symphonic chorus that explores unique collaboration and dynamic repertory, announces Reimagine, a 2021-2022 season unlike any other, producing three multidisciplinary digital performances Earth Song, Morning Light, and The Caged Bird Sings for Freedom, and an anticipated return to in-person performances with Love in Action, and Sacred Concerts.

 It is a new chapter at Portland Opera, as the company shares a rearticulated vision for the future, built on foundational progress accomplished during COVID-19 closures, and upcoming programming shaped by a new mission and values for the organization. 

On Site Opera, New York's pioneering opera company rooted in site-specific storytelling and the immersive experience, is taking music to the mail with The Beauty That Still Remains: Diaries in Song beginning this November and available for purchase through February.

This Sunday, November 8th at 4pm EST, The American Opera Project will offer the first episode of Music as the Message: Of Thee I DREAM, conceived and hosted by soprano Adrienne Danrich, an online musical celebration for EVERYONE to lift up their voices toward healing, laughter, joy, inspiration and most importantly, community.

The Central Park Five by Anthony Davis, a world premiere commissioned and presented by Long Beach Opera on June 15th, 22nd and 23rd, explores the interrogation and coerced confessions of five teenagers wrongly convicted of a crime in New York City in the 1980's. The opera details their stories, including the profound effect their unjust prison sentences had on their young lives.

The little OPERA theatre of ny (LOTNY) presents the New York Premiere of Benjamin Britten's opera in two acts, OWEN WINGRAVE, with libretto by Myfanwy Piper, at GK Arts Center, 29 Jay Street, Brooklyn, NY, from May 9-12, 2019, with performances on Thursday through Saturday at 7:30pm and Sunday at 3pm. Tickets are $20-$45 and are available at www.ticketcentral.com.

Long Beach Opera (LBO) presents the West Coast Premiere of The Love Potion (Le Vin Herbe), with music by Frank Martin. LBO Artistic & General Director Andreas Mitisek directs and Benjamin Makino conducts. The libretto is by Joseph Bedier; the English language translation is by Hugh McDonald.

The Mayor of Williamsburg welcomes Bernard Holcomb, Caitlin Mesiano, Charlie Tingen, Chloe Fox, Claudillea Holloway, Eric Michael Parker, Michelle Ireton, Nicholas Connolly, Raquel Suarez Groen, Stefanie Londino, Tony Mowatt, and Vincent Hale as the cast.
