BWW Review: RED BIKE at Teatro Paraguas (Online)

Innovative theatre makers across the country have risen to the challenge of creating safe art in the time of COVID - often via Zoom, Twitch, or other conferencing/streaming platforms. Red Bike, directed by Juliet Salazar and presented by Teatro Paraguas, took a different, and decidedly more cinematic route, resulting in an engrossing piece of socially distanced theatre.

BWW Review: 4,000 MILES at New Mexico Actors Lab

The 2019 New Mexico Actors Lab season has been a very strong one, and the trend continues with their final production, 4,000 Miles. Amy Herzog's 2013 Pulitzer finalist is about, in large part, the relationship between 21 year old Leo and his 91 year old grandmother, dealing with themes of family, loss, responsibility, and love in a lovely, intimately staged fashion.

Teatro Paraguas Presents WORD OVER ALL

Teatro Paraguas presents Word Over All: Walt Whitman and Pablo Neruda, a celebration of the poetry and prose of two of the Americas' most beloved poets, opening on August 30, 2019 for seven performances at Teatro Paraguas Studio in Santa Fe. Teatro Paraguas originally presented Word Over All  for two weekends in March 2015 as part of the ongoing ¡Poesía Viva! poetry performance series.

BWW Review: STOP KISS at New Mexico Actors Lab

A review of the original 1998 production of Diana Son's Stop Kiss refers to the play as a 'small treasure' - not intended as a slight, but I think in reference to the beautifully, movingly simple nature of the script. I would use the same phrase to describe the New Mexico Actor's Lab production (currently running at Teatro Paraguas) - the play is full of small, gorgeous moments that are masterfully directed and acted, creating a lovely and impactful evening of theatre.

Teatro Paraguas Presents A Poetry Reading: Lummox Poetry Anthology #7

RD Armstrong, founder and editor of Lummox Press, writes: "Lummox 7 (the Lummox Poetry Anthology and the new Angela Consolo Mankiewicz* Poetry Contest), the massive labor of love, is my gift to the small press poetry world. Each year for the past seven this anthology has been a showcase for poetry and poetics (containing poetry, art, essays, interviews and reviews by/with 140 poets). There was no theme of this year's Anthology and Contest.

Teatro Paraguas Presents ATRAVESADA: POETRY OF THE BORDER

Atravesada is part of Teatro Paraguas' annual Poesia Viva - living poetry - series. It explores the physical and political U.S.-Mexico border and also the Borderlands of the Self. Woven with corridos and other music of the frontera (the borderlands), Atravesada has plenty of humor - but also offers an unflinching portrait of the border as "una herida abierta."

Teatro Paraguas and Casablanca Studios present the 5th Annual El Dia de los Muertos (The Day of the Dead) community celebration with an exciting line-up of live music, a puppet play, staged cuentos (folk-tales), a medley of songs from the movie Coco, and a short classic comedy.
