These readings are an initiative of NoPassport (www.nopassport.org) for Human Rights International reading scheme. The play centers on stories from the United States, Nigeria, Syria, Malaysia, sub-Sahara, and Venezuela.

Teatro Paraguas will present the 2012 Pulitzer Prize-winning play Water by the Spoonful Quiara Alegria Hudes. Hudes skillfully intertwines the story of a returning Iraq War veteran struggling to find meaning in his life with that of a quartet of recovering addicts finding strength and support in a chat room. Using the themes of dissonance and redemption, the play searches for connection across generations, continents and cyberspace. Water by the Spoonful probes the bonds of family and community with humor and lyricism.
