Nominations in 26 competitive categories for the American Theatre Wing's 65th Annual Antoinette Perry 'Tony' Awards were announced May 3, 2011 by Tony Award winning actor Matthew Broderick and Tony Award winning actress Anika Noni Rose, at the Tony Award Nominations Announcement sponsored by IBM.

Yesterday morning, past Tony winners Anika Noni Rose and Matthew Broderick announced the 2011 Tony Awards nominees live from the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts in New York City. National Corporate Theatre Fund (NCTF) held its Annual Chairman's Awards Gala and benefit last night (Monday, May 2) at the St. Regis New York hotel, raising more than $320,000 for new American theatre. This year, NCTF Chairman James S Turley, Chairman and CEO of Ernst & Young, honored Oscar and Tony Award-winner Joel Grey (on Broadway this season in Anything Goes and director of Broadway's The Normal Heart), recipient of the Theater Artist Award, presented to Mr. Grey by Anything Goes director/choreographer Kathleen Marshall; Charles Dillingham (Managing Director, Center Theatre Group, Los Angeles), recipient of the Theater Professional Award, presented by Benjamin Moore (Managing Director of Seattle Repertory Theatre) and Richard Thomas (Race on Broadway and The Public's Timon of Athens); and BNY Mellon, recipient of the Corporate Leadership Award, presented by Tony Award-winning stage and film actress Anika Noni Rose. All net proceeds of the event will be distributed as the NCTF/BNY MELLON FUND FOR NEW AMERICAN THEATRE.

Nominations for The 56th Annual Drama Desk Awards were announced on Friday, April 29, 2011, at 9:30 AM at the New York Friars Club, 57 East 55th Street, in Manhattan. Former Drama Desk Award winners Audra MacDonald and Liev Schreiber made the announcements. Other speakers included Isa Goldberg, President of the Drama Desk; Robert R. Blume, Executive Producer of the Drama Desk Awards; Barbara Siegel, chairperson of the Drama Desk Nominating Committee and Randie Levine-Miller, Director of Special Events for the Drama Desk, who has produced the nominations announcement ceremony at the NY Friars Club for the past 15 years.

'I'm having a good morning! I was actually watching the announcements on NY1 this morning- I'm not gonna lie, or try to be cool about that. I'm just so thrilled for the show. We really couldn't have asked for a better outcome. I'm so thrilled by all of the nominations the we got today, but I'm not surprised. We've always been thrilled doing the show and it's great that everyone's hard work is being recognized. Just working with the cast every night has been an absolute dream. To have so many of us nominated has been amazing. Particularly the fact that both Josh and I were nominated is amazing. We're both over the moon about the whole thing. The rest of the day I'll be making phone calls and sending emails. Later Scott Rudin has a little get-together planned, so there will be a celebration tonight!'

The Village Voice, the nation's largest alternative weekly newspaper, announced that the 56th Annual Obie Awards will take place on Monday, May 16, 2011 at Webster Hall in the East Village (125 East 11th Street). The awards will be co-hosted by S. Epatha Merkerson and David Hyde Pierce.

THE BOOK OF MORMON star Andrew Rannellsrecently chatted with MensWeek about playing leading man Elder Price and what he's done to prepare for the role. Rannells commented: 'I got to be funny - and a lot of times you're not supposed to be. I've certainly played those leading man or male juvenile roles, where you're not supposed to make people laugh. [The producers] let me sort of explore that and what is funny about that guy and also to make him quirky and weird in his own way.'

The 56th Annual Drama Desk Awards, hosted by Harvey Fierstein, will be held Monday, May 23, at 9:00 PM at the Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan Center, 8th Avenue and 34th Street. This year, for the first time, a 90-minute Highlights Special of the Drama Desk Awards Ceremony will be televised nationally on OVATION, the national cable network dedicated to presenting creative arts programming to national TV audiences. The ceremony will be given two primetime broadcasts plus four other airings between June 4 and June 19, 2011.

The Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS 25th Annual Easter Bonnet Competition has just wrapped at the Minskoff Theatre! The first acts were presented yesterday, April 25, with the show continuing today, Tuesday, April 26. The proceeds from the event will benefit BC/EFA.

According to the NY Times, BOKK OF MORMON representatives have confirmed that theatre-goers have been showing up with counterfeit tickets to the hot new show in the past few weeks. On at least five seperate occassions, ushers have had to turn away audience members who have arrived with tampered tickets purchased on Craigslist.

This morning, Norbert Leo Butz and Kathleen Chalfant announced the nominations for The 77th Annual Drama League Awards in the categories of Distinguished Production of Play, Distinguished Production of a Musical, Distinguished Revival of a Play, Distinguished Revival of a Musical and the Distinguished Performance Award. Both actors are previous winners of The Drama League's Distinguished Performance Award.
