Review: SCHOOL OF ROCK THE MUSICAL at Argenta Contemporary Theatre
by Theresa Bertram
- Mar 11, 2025
I am so happy I didn’t miss the mind-blowing, face melting production that was the SCHOOL OF ROCK THE MUSICAL at the Argenta Contemporary Theatre, which had a few shows pushed off to the last week of February due to the crazy Arkansas weather. On Tuesday, Feb. 25, I took my seat, not entirely sure what to expect, but from the very first power chord, I knew I was in for something special. The energy was electric, the cast was on fire, and the live music—played by the incredibly talented young performers—was nothing short of jaw-dropping. I was impressed!
Review: PHANTOM at Arizona Broadway Theatre
by Herbert Paine
- Mar 10, 2025
By now, the phrase Phantom of the Opera conjures one thing: Andrew Lloyd Webber’s juggernaut, a chandelier-crashing, organ-blasting spectacle that has been haunting Broadway since the Reagan administration. But Maury Yeston and Arthur Kopit’s PHANTOM, currently at Arizona Broadway Theatre in Peoria until April 10, is an entirely different beast—lusher, more romantic. It plays like a grand old movie, the kind that knew how to sweep you up in its spell.
Review: JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR at Springer Opera House
by Russell Warne
- Mar 10, 2025
Today, an entire genre of Christian rock exists to mix praise with modern music. But in 1970, it was unheard of until Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's Jesus Christ Superstar burst onto the scene. The mix of heart-pounding guitar chords with the story of the final week of Christ's ministry was revolutionary and became one of the defining musical theatre albums of the Baby Boomer generation. Jesus Christ Superstar returns to the stage in a Springer Opera House's production that has a strong cast and choreography, but which struggles at times with coherence.

Review: 'A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE' at Theatre 29
by Charlie Thomas
- Mar 7, 2025
Pulling into the hi-desert with a head of steam, clash and clatter is Tennessee Williams' 1947 Pulitzer Prize winning drama 'A Streetcar Named Desire'. Theatre 29 has staged a mesmerizing production under the astute direction of Gary Daigneault. The play, featuring Bobbie Breckenridge as the fragile and complex Blanche DuBois, Deacon Ledges as the brutish yet charismatic Stanley Kowalski, and Victoria Shupe as the conflicted Stella Kowalski, offers a compelling exploration of desire, illusion, and the harsh realities of life.
