Summer is looking pretty bright this year.  And we’re not even talking about the reemergence of the reliable Georgia summer sun.  We’re talking about the real patrons in the stadium seats. We’re talking about live summer concerts with our favorite sweaty koozies.  And we’re talking about the highly anticipated return of another fun summer staple:  theatre camp!

In a one-hour, one-session class presented by Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe on April 27, participants will explore August Wilson’s background, his ten-play cycle, known as “The American Century Cycle,” and his 4 B’s (the Blues, Jorge Luis Borges, Amiri Baraka and Romare Bearden).

The Alliance/Kendeda National Graduate Playwriting Competition continues to spotlight the best emerging playwrights with a virtual production of this year's winning play DATA and virtual readings of the four finalist plays.  The 17th competition winner, DATA is a fast-paced thriller that looks behind the closed doors of Silicon Valley. DATA is written by Matthew Libby and the virtual production is directed by Susan V. Booth.

 The Alliance Theatre today announced three additional guest artists as part of its previously announced Under the Tent series.  In addition to its concert performances of WORKING: THE MUSICAL, BEAUTIFUL BLACKBIRD and SONGS TO GROW ON, the Alliance will provide its tent for performances by Tyrone Jackson & Friends, Sister Omelika, and The TINY Theater Company. 

In celebration of International Women's Day, Disney on Broadway announces free registration, programming, and participants for the 4th annual 'Women's Day on Broadway' virtual event on Friday, March 12, 2021, beginning at 1 pm EST. 

Keen Company has announced new guests for upcoming evenings of the popular FREE event, Keen After Hours: Brian Eugenio Herrera on March 15th, Nick Blaemire on March 22nd and Dan Domingues on March 29th, joining the previously announced Thomas Jay Ryan (March 1st) and Jennifer Ashley Tepper (March 8th). Keen After Hours is free and open to all. 

Northern Stage has announced the 2021 recipients of the BOLD Theater Women's Leadership Circle grant, which marks its fourth year with two new inductees into its unprecedented $3.5 million grant funded by the Helen Gurley Brown Foundation to support and promote women+ artistic directors and their associates in professional theaters across the United States.

Producer Mark Cortale has announced that six stars of the stage and screen will join the late-February - March 2021 line-up of The Seth Concert Series, the live weekly series based on Seth Rudetsky’s international Broadway series that began at The Art House in Provincetown ten years ago.

New York Stage and Film has committed $100,000 to their new NEXUS Initiative that brings together 20 multihyphenate artists to explore the question “where does story exist at the intersection of stage and film?” Each participant receives $5,000 and will take part in a series of conversations focused on new and expanded forms of storytelling.

Today’s subject Emily Skinner is currently living her theatre life in your living rooms as part of Signature Theatre’s streaming presentation of Simply Sondheim. The production is available through March 26th. Over the years, Emily has wowed audiences on Broadway and throughout the country. You might remember her past Signature greatness from her performances in Dirty Blonde, Ace, and The Witches of Eastwick.

Award-winning Bay Area Children's Theatre announced today that it will be making BACT's Artistic Director Khalia Davis' adaptation of Jelani Memory's critically acclaimed book, a kids book about racism, entitled A Kids Play About Racism, available during Black History Month to engage, provoke conversation and inspire positive social change in concert with announcing their new virtual and national conversation series, Sunday Spotlight w/Khalia Davis.

The Alliance Theatre has announced the Kathy Bernhardt Volunteer of the Year Award to recognize individuals who give of their time and resources as volunteers at the theater.  Volunteers serve as ushers, serve meals for cast and crew members, fundraise, act as ambassadors, and serve on various boards, advisory boards, and more.  The new award will annually recognize someone who exemplifies the selfless, community-oriented volunteerism of its namesake volunteer, Kathy Bernhardt.    

The Alliance Theatre today announced updates to its 2020/21 season, including a new “Under The Tent” series to provide more socially-distanced performance options.  The “Under the Tent” series will include a concert staging of the Broadway hit WORKING: A MUSICAL, as well as concert-style performances of BEAUTIFUL BLACKBIRD LIVE and more.
