Six talented writers are joining The Playwriting Collective in 2017! Starting in February Alex Rubin, Jeffrey James Keyes, John Carhart, Kate Garfield, Wi-Moto Nyoka, and Katie Fabel will meet for a 6-week period with Artistic Directors Joshua Young and Phillip Christian in an effort to create several new full-length plays. The Playwriting Collective puts the playwright first and cultivates work that is transmedia. This year the participating playwrights will be motivated to indulge their imaginations and tell stories that are armed with all the weapons of modern stagecraft.

The Samuel French Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival, the nation's premier short play competition, takes place August 9 - 14 at the East 13th Street Theater (Classic Stage Company). Chosen from 1,500 submissions from the U.S. and abroad, 30 finalist plays, each running 10-30 minutes in length, will be presented.

Director Jimmy Maize (Spoon River Anthology at The Invisible Dog) and BOSS (En Garde Arts) will lead actresses Libby Winters (American Idiot) and Ito Aghayere (Lortel Nomination for Familiar at Playwrights Horizons) in Uniforms by Jeffrey James Keyes (The End of Days &Imaginary Friends) next month in the Samuel French 41st Annual Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival in New York City.

The Samuel French Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival, the nation's premier short play competition, announces the 30 finalists for its 41st festival.  Chosen from 1,500 submissions from the U.S. and abroad, these 30 plays will be presented during a week-long festival August 9 - 14. All performances will take place at the East 13th Street Theater (Classic Stage Company).

FRIGID New York @ Horse Trade will present Lama Theater Company's Fest of the Best, a four-day festival of plays, poems, and songs written by artists from around the world, selected from Lama's cold reading series, The Monthly Question. The festival will run April 27-30 at The Kraine Theater (85 East 4th Street between 2nd Avenue and Bowery) with performances Wednesday, April 27 at 8pm, Thursday, April 28 at 7pm, Friday, April 29 at 7pm, and Saturday, April 30 at 3pm & 7pm. The fully staged production, directed/choreographed by Curtis Holbrook, was led by Rebecca Luker as Lily, Gabriella Pizzolo as Mary, and Bradley Dean as Archie with Tom Deckman, Ali Ewoldt, Frances Mercanti-Anthony, Bill Nolte, Eli Tokash, Max von Essen, and Cortney Wolfson.
