After a two-month submission period and hundreds of submissions from around the world, Sanguine is pleased to announce 4 finalists for its annual Project Playwright Festival. The audience favorite at the Festival receives a fully-produced premiere of their play in New York City as a part of Sanguine's 2017 season.

The 2017 finalists are:

The Apocalypse Plays by Alex Rubin

Blacked Out by Kate Bell

Jessica by Patrick Vermillion

The Listening Room by Michaela Jeffery

About the Festival, Acting Artistic Director Emily Jackson says, "To celebrate four new plays, any one of which Sanguine would be proud to produce, is an invigorating and exceptional opportunity. We are happy to champion these artists and to bring fresh, vital, audience-supported work to life." On Monday, January 16th, Sanguine Theatre Company will produce a festival evening of staged readings in New York City with excerpts of the finalists' scripts. Each excerpt is assigned a director and team of actors, and the audience votes on the winning script. This winner is announced at the end of the festival evening, and his or her play will receive a full production in New York City as a part of Sanguine's 2017 season.

The 2017 Project Playwright Festival will be held on Monday, January 16 at Soho Playhouse at 15 Vandam St in New York. The event will begin at 7:00pm. Tickets are $18 when purchased at the door, and $15 when purchased in advance via http://bit.ly/2j0Dshr.

Questions about the festival can be directed to Sanguine's literary team at: info@sanguinenyc.org.

Previous winners include: Primary by Gracie Gardner (2016), the lighthouse invites the storm by Josh Drimmer (2015), Flamingo by Alex Trow (2014), EXIT 27 by Aleks Merilo (2013), Bees and Lions by Sarah M. Duncan (2012), and Cary's Chain Store Massacre by W.M. Akers (2011). Now in its 7th year, the competition has already showcased over 28 finalist playwrights, over 25 emerging directors, and dozens of talented New York City actors through the annual festival evenings.
