AMT Theatre Unveils New Off-Broadway Theatre

AMT Theater has unveiled the look of its stunning new 99 seat Off Broadway home at 354 West 45th Street, scheduled to open in June of 2022.  AMT plans to use the venue as a launching pad for shows to move on to Broadway, as well as provide a new, permanent home for artists and residents in the theater district. 

AMT Will Present THEATRE FEST NY 2022

Artistic Director Tony Sportiello announced that AMT Theater at 354 West 45th Street would proudly present the inaugural THEATRE FEST NY 2022!  Spearheading the Festival will be producer Deborah Grimberg, who was instrumental in the success of the recent Midtown International Theater Festival.

Electric Island​ is a new musical conceived and written by Rachelle Rak with music and additional lyrics by Steven Jamail. This developmental project tells the real stories of women working on Broadway: those working hard to go from show to show and aren’t the recognized stars above the marquee. Shining light on women of all ages, ethnicities, and sexual orientations, ​Electric Island illuminates how these performers have navigated the highs and lows of a life in the theater--on stage and off.

NATIONAL PASTIME Returns to Mexico this June

National Pastime, the award winning Al Tapper musical, is heading back to Guadalajara, Mexico, where it has already won a boatload of accolades.  Opening June 1st at the Teatro Experimental de Jalisco, National Pastimeis the story of a small town radio station in Iowa during the Great Depression which creates a fictional baseball team.  The screwball comedy musical will once again be directed by Mauricio Cedeno, winner of the prestigious Theatrical Merit Award in 2016.  The cast will feature Victor Aceves, Vanessa Arroyo, Enrique Valdez Arce, Franz Bomthanley, Luisa Cortes, Agni Gonzalez, Blanca Montoya, Alejandra Moreno, Giselle Restelli, Joaquin Romero and Mafer Santes.

Algonquin Theater Productions has announced that veteran theater stars Ken Jennings from the United States and Joaquin Romero from Mexico will be portraying Walter Winchell in the international presentation of the new Al Tapper musical The Paparazzi. The performance will feature casts from both Guadalajara and New York as they tell the tale of The Paparazzi in both English and Spanish. This one night only event will be done at the historic Ellington Room at 400 West 43rd Street, February 28th at 7:30pm.

Mauricio Cedeno To Direct International Cast of THE PAPARAZZI

Algonquin Theater Productions announces that legendary Mexican director Mauricio Cedeno will direct the February 28th International Presentation of the new Al Tapper musical 'The Paparazzi', held at the historic Ellington Room on West 43rd Street, Both U.S. and Mexican actors will join together to sing the songs as Algonquin makes plans to produce the show in both English and Spanish in 2019. Cedeno directed 'The Paparazzi' in the fall of 2018 in Guadalajara. Algonquin is producing 'The Paparazzi' under the project name Broadway Without Borders. The event on the 28th is a chance for audiences to see the Mexican cast and the New York cast together for one night, singing the songs in both English and Spanish. David Wolfson is the musical director for the evening, which starts at 7:30pm.

THE PAPARAZZI Kicks Off In Historic Ellington Room

Algonquin Theater Productions has announced that the new Al Tapper musical 'The Paparazzi' will kick off its historic New York run at the Ellington Room February 28th, 2019 at 7pm. The evening will be a one night presentation, highlighting actors from both Guadalajara and New York, singing songs from the show in both English and Spanish. It will be directed by legendary Mexican director Mauricio Cedeno. Productions of 'The Paparazzi' in both languages are then scheduled for later in 2019.

Algonquin To Open English And Spanish Versions Of THE PAPARAZZI

In a historic move, Algonquin Theater Productions is announcing that it will be partnering with legendary Mexican director Mauricio Cedeno to produce two versions of the same show, 'The Paparazzi', one in English and one in Spanish, to run simultaneously in 2019. The English version will feature New York actors while the Spanish one will be comprised of actors from Guadalajara and directed by Cedeno. The new Al Tapper musical has already been produced in Mexico to great acclaim so it just made sense to bring those actors here to New York.

On Sunday, November 11th, Algonquin Theater Productions will present a reading of its new musical, 'The Paparazzi', music and lyrics by Al Tapper, book by Tony Sportiello, directed by Tom Herman.  Some will walk to see the reading, some will take cars or subways.  And some will fly from more than 2500 miles away. 

Jim Newman Joins Reading of the New Musical THE PAPARAZZI

Broadway star Jim Newman ('Hands on a Hardbody', 'Curtains', 'Steel Pier') joins the cast of the new musical 'The Paparazzi' for a reading this November 11th and 12th at 305 West 38th Street, Ripley Grier Studio Theater. Newman plays country music star Jimmy Maguire who falls prey to the paparazzi and their penchant for distorting the truth. The show has music and lyrics by Al Tapper and a book by Tony Sportiello. The reading on the 11th will be at 6pm, while the one on the 12th will be 1pm.

THE PAPARAZZI Shines In Guadalajara

On Thursday night 'The Paparazzi' opened at the Vivien Blumenthal Theatre in Guadalajara, Mexico and the place lit up like a Hollywood premiere.  Ten actors brilliantly portraying dozens of parts, including celebrities, photographers and paparazzi, all led by the ghost of Walter Winchell in a new musical by Al Tapper and Tony Sportiello, brought to life by legendary Mexican director Mauricio Cedeno. 

NY Composer Hits A Home Run With Williams Documentary

The National Pastime has been a fan favorite for movie buffs since the infancy of the two American institutions.  The annual celebration of that connection returns this week in Cooperstown at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum's 13th Annual Film Festival.  Ted Williams: “The Greatest Hitter Who Ever Lived” headlines the Film Festival, which begins on Friday, Sept. 21.   The film was produced by Al Tapper, composer and lyricist of the Off Broadway hits 'Sessions', 'An Evening at the Carlyle', 'All Aboard!' and 'National Pastime,' the baseball musical which has played all over the world.  Tapper's latest musical 'The Paparazzi', opens in Guadalajara October 19th.  Tapper has also produced the hit documentaries 'Broadway: The Golden Age' and 'Broadway Musicals: A Jewish Legacy'.  'Broadway Musicals: A Jewish Legacy' won the 2013 Peabody Award.

Algonquin Theater Productions Presents THE PAPARAZZI

In 2010 the musical 'Sessions', (produced by Algonquin Theater Productions, book, music and lyrics by Al Tapper) opened in Guadalajara, becoming the first Off Broadway musical to ever play in Mexico's second largest city. It won Best Musical of the Year.

THE PAPARAZZI Premieres in Mexico

The book and songs for the new musical 'The Paparazzi' are being written in Manhattan but the director, actors and designers who are going to bring it to life are three thousand miles away. Mau Cedeno is currently in Guadalajara, Mexico, directing rehearsals for the brand new show with songs by Al Tapper and book by Tony Sportiello, who reside in New York, Utilizing email and Facebook the collaborators work on the show daily despite being in two separate countries. 'The Paparazzi' is scheduled to open at the Vivien Blumenthal Theatre in Guadalajara this October,
