The Echo Theater Company will present a staged reading of a new play, For Want of a Horse by Olivia Dufault, on Thursday, June 15 at 8 p.m. at Atwater Village Theatre.

Tony-nominated playwright Lucas Hnath’s THE THIN PLACE is an eerie meditation on grief, regret and the need for closure, though it is undermined by the lack of a satisfying conclusion despite phenomenal performances.

Deser responded to the text using all of the tools at her disposal. The show, in her opinion, calls for lyrical moments of choreography, instances of grittiness that evoke the works of Edward Albee or John Cassavetes, and the overall flexing of “intellectual muscles” to engage with the mysteries and metaphors laid out in the text.

Abigail Deser directs the California premiere of The Thin Place by Obie Award-winning playwright Lucas Hnath, running March 18 through April 24 at Atwater Village Theatre.

The Echo Theater Company, named LA Weekly's a?oeBest Bet for Ballsy Original Plays,a?? presents an online reading of a three-course play with recipes by Kira Obolensky. Ingredients: a middle-class Midwestern family, a modest urban kitchen, a larger-than-life mother who visits, a striving woman, a somewhat supportive man, and a daughter named Hurricane. Mix with the world outside, the never-ending attempt to nourish and be nourished, and a 21-year time span filled with changes, both epic and ever so small.

MainStreet Theatre Company, the resident professional company at the Lewis Family Playhouse, has three unique offerings in store for the thousands of school groups and families who make up the bulk of their audiences.  "I'm so excited to announce our 14th season", says Mireya Hepner, MainStreet's Artistic Producer. City Staff have reported an unusual sight around the halls of the Lewis Family Playhouse. Normal-seeming women have been seen squelching unsuspecting children, who then seem to disappear forever. In some instances, instead of being squelched, children have been rumored to be transformed into other creatures, including mice! Playwright Lily Blau receives a strong mounting of her world premiere The Missing Pages of Lewis Carroll at the Theatre @ Boston Court. Director Abigail Deser glides her able cast through what Blau has imagined would be in the missing pages of author Lewis Carroll's actual diaries.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association's 2014/15 Toyota Symphonies for Youth (TSFY) concert series at Walt Disney Concert Hall begins on Saturday, October 18, and Saturday, October 25, at 11 a.m., with "The Organ: Stops, Keys, Pedals and Pipes!" - two performances of an original concert production that celebrates the tenth birthday of the Walt Disney Concert Hall's pipe organ.
