Charles Dennis, Co-Founder of P.S. 122 and Avant-Garde-Arama, Dies

Charles Dennis, interdisciplinary artist and co-founder of P.S. 122 and AVANT-GARDE-ARAMA, has died at his home in Hurley, NY. He performed in Robert Wilson's EINSTEIN ON THE BEACH and championed experimental arts in the Hudson Valley.

Performance Space New York Presents Wet Noise 12-hour Dance-a-thon

Performance Space New York partners with East Village-based queer funk dance party WET NOISE for a celebratory 12-Hour DANCE-A-THON (May 5, 12pm-12am), a fundraising event that couldn't be further from expectations of what a "fundraising event" entails. The DANCE-A-THON revels in filthy funk music, endless dancing, community building, and inclusivity across age, race, gender, sexuality, and class. DJs tag team in sets as a dynamic give-and-take, throughout the night; they include founding DJ Amber Martin along with Patrick Johnson, Ana Matronic (Scissor Sisters), Seth Kirby (Joshua Light Show), Thomas Campbell, and DatKat (O.E.A.).
Highways Queer Festival Celebrates 30 Years

Highways turns 30! The performance space presents Behold! Highways' Queer Fest 2019 May-June, its annual queer performance arts festival, which appropriately collides with the enduring creative space's 30th birthday. From May 3rd through June 30, 2019, two months of new LGBTQIA work will be presented by Highways' extended family of artists, writers and performers such as solo-theatre legend Tim Miller (a founder and original co-artistic director), eminent artist-activist Michael Kearns, the nation's first out transgender modern dance choreographer Sean Dorsey, and Black Lives Matter Co-founder Patrisse Cullors. Look for specific Dirty 30 anniversary events that bookend the festival (5/3, 5/4 and 6/29). Behold! will also feature such emerging performance artists and curators as Tyler Matthew Oyer, Marval A Rex, Celeste XXX, Moises Josue Michel, Kyoko Takenaka and Shruti Purkayastha. The Syracuse University Department of Drama resumes its 2018-2019 season with 'The Wild Party,'written and composed by Andrew Lippa. Faculty members Katherine McGerr and Andrea Lee Smith will take the audience into the world of the Roaring '20s with their direction and choreography. The musical will run from March 29 through April 7 in the Syracuse Stage/ Drama Complex, 820 East Genesee Street, Syracuse, New York, 13210.
