La Jolla Playhouse has announced the dates and projects for its 2022 DNA New Work Series, running December 1 – 12 in the Playhouse’s Rao and Padma Makineni Play Development Center.

This production of YOUR BEST ONE marks the east coast premier of one in a series of three plays by Meridith Friedman. In it, the Hoffman family rallies together, and against one another, as they wrestle with issues such as love, loss, finance, health insurance, child custody, and more in the context of a non-traditional, more modern family. As Richard and David deal with grown up matters, Josh, David's teenage adopted son, deals with newcomer Richard: Who is he? What does he really want? And what does it mean for Josh's future? Meridith Friedman's warm, funny and touching play gets to the heart of what family is all about and makes us realize that indeed, family matters.

Although nuVOICES 5 was all about women playwrights, the staged readings in the revived Actor's Theatre of Charlotte festival at Queens University featured plenty of diversity - and plenty of onstage and tech talent.

The eighth annual NEXT ACT! New Play Summit, at Capital Repertory Theatre and Proctors, June 7-10, features readings of three full-length plays-Meridith Friedman's The Luckiest People, Rachel Lynett's Here Be Dragons and Deborah Yarchun's The Calm Before. THE FIRESTORM previews March 27-29, opens March 30 and runs through April 28, 2019.

National New Play Network, the country's alliance of professional theaters that collaborate in innovative ways to develop, produce, and extend the life of new plays, announces its 2018-19 grant recipients, including the 2018 Smith Prize for Political Theatre, six Producer Residencies, and five Collaboration Fund awards that will support partnerships between multiple Member Theaters, playwrights, and other theater makers in various projects.
