Directed by Artistic Associate Rachel Lambert, THE FIRESTORM highlights the repercussions "call-out culture" has on relationships, explores the challenges and triumphs of interracial relationships, and notes how couples can navigate the world together in a highly-politicized society. Orlando Shakes in partnership with UCF invites patrons to the center of the creative process at PlayFest presented by Harriett's Charitable Trust (PlayFest 2018) from November 2 - 4 and 10 - 11, 2018. The two weekend festival features seven readings of new plays in development. Tickets to individual PlayFest readings ($10) will be available to the general public on Wednesday, September 26 at 12:00 PM and may be purchased online at orlandoshakes.org, by phone at (407) 447-1700 ext. 1, or in person at the John and Rita Lowndes Shakespeare Center (812 East Rollins Street). National New Play Network, the country's alliance of nonprofit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, celebrates the second leg of The Luckiest People by Meridith Friedman, its 69th Rolling World Premiere. The play, which received the 2013-14 Annual Commission in collaboration with Curious Theatre Company, will receive a total of three distinct NNPN RWP productions, rolling through Curious Theatre Company (May 6-June 17, 2017 in Denver, CO), Actor's Theatre of Charlotte (now playing January 31-February 17, 2018 in NC), and Stage Left Theatre (March 26-April 29, 2018 in Chicago, IL).
