Louisa Proske brings her talent for creating vivid theatrical worlds, her raw passion and her attention to detail to her productions in opera, classical theatre, and contemporary drama. She is the proud Founding Co-Artistic Director of Heartbeat Opera. Her work has received raves in The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Wall Street Journal, Opera News, and other publications. Opera productions include Agrippina (Lincoln Center debut/ Juilliard), Cos√¨ fan tutte (LoftOpera), Carmen, Lucia di Lammermoor, Daphnis & Chlo√© (Heartbeat Opera), Falstaff (Dell‚ÄôArte Opera), Gianni Schicchi, Riders to the Sea, La Voix Humaine (Yale Opera); Invisible Cities (world premiere, Italian Academy New York). Theatre includes peerless (nominated for a Berkshire Theatre Award for Outstanding Direction), Gaslight, This and Engagements (all Barrington Stage Company), One Day When We Were Young (Assembly, Edinburgh), ‚ÄėTis Pity She‚Äôs A Whore (The Tank), Cymbeline and As You Like It (Yale Drama), and Macbeth (European tour).
Louisa is an alumna of the Drama League Director’s Project. She holds an MFA in Directing from Yale School of Drama, and she is on faculty at Maggie Flanigan Studio teaching Shakespeare Acting and Script Analysis. More info: www.louisaproske.com

HEARTBEAT OPERA will return to the in-person stage for its eighth season this year.  Heartbeat's 2021-22 season kicks off in September with a free outdoor screening of BREATHING FREE, their visual album that connects Beethoven's Fidelio with the work of Black composers and lyricists such as Harry T. Burleigh, Langston Hughes, and Anthony Davis.
