Cygnet Theatre announces the inaugural Dee Silver M.D. Commission, which will award $10,000 and an unrestricted time limit on the creation of a new play that responds to our present times with hope and healing. The first commission award goes to playwright Ray Yamanouchi, an up-and-coming east coast playwright who approaches difficult subject matter with a tilt towards the mystic and develops characters with gentleness.

BWW Review: SILENT SKY Shines Bright at Summit Performance Indianapolis


There's a new theatre company in town and its inaugural production is not to be missed. Summit Performance Indianapolis, co-founded by Lauren Briggeman and Georgeanna Smith Wade, opened Silent Sky at the Phoenix Theatre this past weekend. The play by Lauren Gunderson tells the true story of the astronomer Henrietta Leavitt who worked at the Harvard Observatory in the early 1900s. It is an astonishing piece of theatre.

Immersive DRUNKLE VANYA Extends Off-Broadway


'Drunkle Vanya,' Three Day Hangover's daring adaptation of Chekhov's 'Uncle Vanya,' is extending at Russian Samovar, 256 West 52nd Street, through March 4.  The six-character interactive and immersive production, in which the audience literally melts into the furniture of the decadently appointed Tolstoy Lounge, started an 8-week run on November 10, found its footing, and has now added eight more weeks through March 4.   Adapted and directed by Lori Wolter Hudson, and produced by Three Day Hangover, with Roman Gambourg, Darren Sussman, and Misha von Shats, 'Drunkle Vanya' will open officially on Friday February 3 at 7:30pm.

After staging several acclaimed shows in bars across the city, they will now present DRACULA and TARTUFFE in their new home, McAlpin Hall at The West Park Presbyterian Church on 86th and Amsterdam this fall. The New York City premiere of Steven Dietz's bold interpretation of the timeless classic DRACULA, directed by Lori Wolter Hudson, will run tonight, September 30 to October 17, and a brand new adaptation of Moliere's classic farce TARTUFFE, directed by Beth Gardiner, will be performed November 4 to November 21.
