New York Musical Theatre Festival is in full swing and BroadwayWorld has taken the time to sit down with some of the stars of this years NYMF musicals.

Like any great art form, musical theatre is shaped by the events and philosophies of the day. The strength and vitality of musical theatre lie in its ability to stay fresh and relevant. It was with that idea in mind, ten years ago, that the New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) was created - to provide an effective platform to introduce new shows, new perspectives, and new blood into the musical theatre canon.

What's your favorite thing about performing as part of NYMF?

NYMF gives us the opportunity to develop incredibly new material all the way through a production process. Last year, SVF was just my secret album. I was quite seriously shy about it. Nobody was supposed to hear it. But NYMF puts faith in unheard material. So suddenly SVF is a collaboration and it's alive and out loud and thats a real gift.

Have you participated in NYMF before? If so, what's your favorite part and what drew you back to the festival?

What other NYMF show are you most intrigued by or excited to see?

The readings and concerts look particularly splashy. Like Joel B. New's TO HELL AND BACK. That has a great sound. And Lori Wolter Hudson is for real. So I'm certainly intrigued with that piece.

Tell us about your show/your character?

SVF is an album of summer songs from a sixteen year-old girl. She's been hibernating in her attic for two years until she finds a way to join the world-- as a cotton candy girl inside the Summer Valley Fair. She chronicles her summer through GarageBand files. Tells her secrets. Faces her ghosts. Her songs are her most honest self portrait-- a picture of a summer-sad girl, trapped in adolescence, and aching for an escape.
