Jacob's Pillow Announces 2022 Dance Award Recipient and Gala Program

Jacob’s Pillow has announced Belgian and Moroccan choreographer, dancer, and director Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui as the recipient of the 2022 Jacob’s Pillow Dance Award. Cherkaoui will accept this award and present a new work at the season-opening Gala on June 18.

Playwright Pandora Scooter was first drawn to life in the theater as a fifth grader. She was assigned a book report, and rather than simply write one, she decided to perform it for the class. “Fortunately, I had a teacher who encouraged me,” she explained. “From that point on, I knew I loved theatre.”

Jacob’s Pillow has announced the full season lineup for Festival 2022, featuring world premieres, new commissions, 90th Anniversary Season celebrations, Pillow-exclusive engagements, and work developed at the Pillow Lab. 


Liz Lerman has been nominated for several awards. She was nominated for Outstanding Choreography in a Play for the HELEN Production (Helen Hayes Awards) for Healing Wars. She was also nominated for The Charles MacArthur Award for Outstanding Original New Play or Musical (Helen Hayes Awards) for Healing Wars and Outstanding Choreography, Resident Production (Helen Hayes Awards) for The Mad Dancers.
