BIO

Julia Bengtsson is a Swedish dancer and choreographer based in New York. She received ten years of training from the Royal Swedish Ballet School and was a Scholarship Student at the Joffrey Ballet School, New York.

She is currently dancing her third season with Connecticut Ballet and perform with the company at The Palace Theater in Stamford and other venues. She have also performed soloist roles at Sweden's two finest theaters; the Gothenburg Opera and the Royal Swedish Opera House and with American dance companies such as Victoria Ballet.

As a choreographer, her works range from classical ballet, to contemporary dance, to opera and theater. It has been performed in venues such as Alvin Ailey Dance Center, The Bruno Walter Auditorium at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, the Higher Ground Festival, Gelsey Kirkland Arts Center, New York Presbyterian Hospital Auditorium, United Palace Theatre, The Joffrey Ballet School, The Modern Dance Theatre in Stockholm, and The Royal Swedish Ballet School.

Julia Bengtsson has also choreographed for film, she was a featured dancer and choreographer of the film “The Goldberg Variations” that was premiered at Carnegie Hall in April. Her first dance film, “Gone”, has been screened at Stockholm Dance Film Festival, ScreenDance, Bruno Walter Auditorium at Lincoln Center and Inwood Film Festival.

She is a board member of the Higher Ground Festival

Opera Lafayette is proud to announce its 25th anniversary season featuring its most diverse lineup to date. This year's season of three operas to be performed in both New York City and Washington, DC, includes John Blow's Venus and Adonis, Ludwig van Beethoven's Leonore, and an adaptation of François André Danican Philidor's Le Maréchal Ferrant (The Blacksmith). Opera Lafayette is renowned for its performances of both lost masterworks, once popular and culturally significant to the history of the 17th through 19th centuries, and early opera that is already part of the modern canon. In addition to this memorable season, Opera Lafayette will mark its 25th anniversary by unveiling a brand new website along with a celebratory video on October 29.
