BWW Review: 'A CHRISTMAS' CANNOLI IS A TALE YOU CAN'T REFUSE at Carrollwood Players Theatre

With tongue firmly planted in cheek, from the imagination of local playwright Joe Pauly comes the outrageous tale of Ebenezer Scungili, the heat-toting Italian olive oil import company proprietor (wink-wink-nudge-nudge) and his miserly, Christmas-hating ways. In this clever adaption of the holiday favorite, 'A Christmas Cannoli' is what happens when 'Casino,' 'Godfather 1, 2, and 3' meet 'A Christmas Carol' and birth an illegitimate, blue-humored, sarcastic baby.

BWW Review: History Has a Nice Beat and You Can Dance to It in Jim Russell's POP GOES AMERICA at the Carrollwood Players Black Box Theatre

Imagine 'Hamilton' as a juke box musical. It's a mess at times, but it's an entertaining mess with an abundance of heart and talent.

BWW Previews: LOCAL ORIGINAL MUSICAL REVUE POP GOES AMERICA DEBUTS at Carrollwood Players Theatre

Coming to The CWP Black Box on June 29-July 1 is Pop Goes America. Inspired by listening to Lou Vega's Mambo #5, local playwright Jim Russell decided to pen historic tales using the melodies of recognized pop music over a short duration of 3 days. From that inspiration came 24 original songs with dances choreographed by director Drew Eberhard that will take you from the 1800s to modern times over a period of two hours.

More than 100 years later, World War 1 still brings the emotion of a proud and patriotic nation who sent her young sons across the globe to defend freedom and protect liberty for the entire world. Coming to The CWP Black Box on May 25-27 is The Great War - A WWI Musical Revue.

BWW Review: Starship Boobieprize and STAR CHIX Soars into Dunedin Community Theatre

If you're expecting dramatic works like Jekyll & Hyde, The Miracle Worker, or The Tempest (though there was some unexpected Shakespeare - 'cause why not), then you didn't read the title on the playbill. This was a 120-minute journey into the unknown... a galaxy far, far away on Starship Boobieprize.

BWW Review: THE FOREIGNER Reflects Open Hearts and Closed Minds at Carrollwood Players Theatre

I've been to movies where the audience interacts with the actors on screen, but never have I been to a play like that. Surprisingly, it wasn't disruptive. It almost felt natural. The patron interaction to 'The Foreigner' was nearly as comical as the play. Director Miguel E. Rodriguez warned that (paraphrasing here) if we have half as much watching as he did directing, then we were about to have a fun night.

BWW Review: Go All the Way with THE FULL MONTY at the Carrollwood Players

It's a fast-paced show, full of life, that is so enjoyable that we forgive any messiness or performance moments that are not up to snuff.

BWW Previews: MONKS GONE WILD at Carrollwood Players Theater

Described as 'Monks gone wild,' by director Jim Russell, INCORRUPTIBLE tells the tale of the Abbey of Priseaux in 13th-century France. France has gone broke because St. Foy, the patron of the local monastery, hasn't generated a miracle in thirteen years.
