Jerry Phelps BIO

Born and raised in Louisiana, Jerry Phelps has a unique and dynamic vocal styling that clearly reflects the varied, eclectic musical environment of his youth: rhythm and blues, zydeco, and gospel to name a few. After honing his skills in performance, piano, and voice, and earning Bachelor and Master of Vocal Music Education degrees, he has become a sought-after leader in arts education, clinician, content expert, and classroom and private music educator. Phelps has created and developed school-based arts education programs across the nation. Phelps was named by the RECORDING ACADEMY© and THE GRAMMY FOUNDATION© as a quarter finalist out of over 30,000 nominations for the inaugural GRAMMY© Music Educator Award. In addition, he serves as accompanist, voice teacher, musical director, vocal coach, and arts education consultant to a variety of schools, school districts, non-profit organizations, and private clients. Phelps has performed and sold out shows in NYC multiple times in venues such as Don't Tell Mama, The Duplex, Metropolitan Room, Triad Theatre, and Laurie Beechman Theatre.

Breaking News: 2016 MAC Award Cabaret Winners Announced!


At a ceremony held last night in New York, the Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs announced the winners of the 2016 MAC Awards. A Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Amanda McBroom.  Also honored with a Board of Directors award was Maryann Lopinto.  Jamie deRoy received the Ruth Kurtzman Benefit Award on behalf of her work with The Actors Fund: Jamie deRoy & Friends Cabaret Initiative.  Sally Darling received the Hanson Award. The show was produced by Julie Miller and directed by Lennie Watts, with musical direction by Matt Baker.

The Metropolitan Room hosted two simultaneous events last night. The 10th year of the MAC Award Winning Benefit Series Cabaret Cares, and the 3rd 40th Birthday of the charities creator Joseph Macchia. The non profit Joseph started 10 years ago has raised over $100,000 to help children living with HIV and AIDS. It was a cabaret spectacular and Broadwayworld was there to catch all the action. Winner of 'Mama's Next BIG Act!' Revealed


 There was an explosion last night at the finale of 'Mama's Next BIG Act!' at Don't Tell Mama. In a giant win, Amorika Amoroso came out on top of a remarkably gifted and well-matched group of performers who treated the standing-room only audience to an evening of sustained artistry and passion.  Amoroso, a deliriously funny R&B and blues singer/bad-ass who slices and dices with stories of growing up unique, sang 'Moving on Up,' which not only blew the roof off the joint, but also served notice that a major star was marching onto the scene in New York cabaret.
