The 44th Asian American International Film Festival (AAIFF44) kicked off on Aug. 11 with the New York City premiere of its Opening Night film SNAKEHEAD by Evan Jackson Leong (LINSANITY).

When The World Was Young, a family drama that tells the story of siblings Benjamin (Jason Ma) and Audrey (Lia Chang) who return home to confront their Mother's (Virginia Wing) memory loss and discover a hidden key to her past, was voted Audience Choice for Best Short Narrative at the 16th annual DisOrient Asian American Film Festival of Oregon.

The Closing Night Film program of the 16th Annual DisOrient Asian American Film Festival of Oregon will feature the Pacific Northwest premieres of Garth Kravits' short film When the World Was Young starring Lia Chang, Jason Ma, Virginia Wing and Jo Yang.

Garth Kravits' short film WHEN THE WORLD WAS YOUNG Starring Lia Chang, Jason Ma and Virginia Wing is an official selection of The 9th New York Shorts International Film Festival and the 2020 Legacy Film Festival on Aging. National Asian Artists Project's Rediscover Series presented Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella- In Concert starring Ali Ewoldt (Phantom of the Opera) and Josh Dela Cruz (Aladdin, 'Blues Clues And You') as Ella and Prince Topher on March 2 at The Alvin Ailey Citicorp Theater. Asian CineVision opened The 42nd Asian American International Film Festival (AAIFF42) with the timely immigration drama YELLOW ROSE on Thursday night at Asia Society in New York.

Zions Bank in partnership with Spike150, CRWDA and Ogden Musical Theatre presented Gold Mountain, written by 2017 ASCAP Foundation's Cole Porter Award recipient Jason Ma as a series of semi-staged concert performances at the Regent Street Black Box at The Eccles Theater in Salt Lake City and in partnership with Ogden Musical Theatre, at the historic Peery's Egyptian Theater in Ogden, May 8 - May 11.

On May 6th and 7th, the Salt Lake Acting Company (SLAC), Utah's leading destination for brave, contemporary theatre, presented the Utah premiere of David Henry Hwang's 1981 play, THE DANCE AND THE RAILROAD. As we approach TONY Awards weekend, we thought we'd catch up with Broadway veteran Baayork Lee, who last week proudly brought her National Asian Artists Project (NAAP) Chorus to the Lillian Booth Actors Home of The Actors Fund, in Engelwood, NJ, on Thursday, May 31. The revered Fund's Home takes care of our own in the industry, whether actor, stagehand, usher, company manager, producer, etc. The Chorus loves going there. This was their second year and, next year, they hope to go twice a year, as it's such a satisfying exchange on both sides. Among the many residents of interest are Fran Liebergall, former assistant to Marvin Hamlisch and Billy Porter's Mom, Cloerinda Ford.
