The new incarnation of Skylark Opera Theatre, under new Artistic Director Robert Neu, is presenting their third work of accessible, intimate opera. As someone who usually stays on the musical theater side of the music-theater spectrum, this approach seems like a good one for me, sort of bridging that gap between opera and music theater. After last year's stripped down adaptation of CARMEN and an immersive DON GIOVANNI, they're now presenting a contemporary opera about a very timely subject. AS ONE is a two-person 90-minute English language opera about Hannah, a transgender woman becoming herself. She is played by both a man and a woman, pre- and post-transition. It's a beautiful, heart-breaking, inspirational, ultimately hopeful story gorgeously told through music. The intimate new space that is North Garden Theater, in St. Paul's West 7th neighborhood, is the perfect location to experience this sparse-in-spectacle but rich-in-substance opera. But act fast - only three more performances remain this weekend.

MINNEAPOLIS (September 14, 2015) -Minnesota Opera today announced the launch of 7 Days of Opera, a festival of free, short, pop-up opera performances that bring opera to unexpected places in the Twin Cities community - malls, zoos, farmers markets, breweries and more. 7 Days of Opera begins Sept. 19 and leads into the company's season opener, Richard Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos, opening Saturday, Sept. 26 at Ordway Music Theater.

For two weeks beginning April 28, 2014, Minnesota Opera will return to the St. Cloud community for a third opera education residency. Minnesota Opera Teaching Artist Bergen Baker and other Minnesota Opera professionals will work with the sixth grade students of St. Cloud Public Schools, teaching them about Mozart and opera through interactive lessons and group rehearsals.

Minnesota Opera presents its co-production of a dynamic and engaging staging of Mozart's The Magic Flute with LA Opera. Mozart's masterful comedy about love, truth and the pursuit of enlightenment is richly reimagined in this boundary-busting production. Connecting the tale's enduring meaning with modern metaphor, this extraordinary staging combines live performance and film animation to delve deeply into the opera's surreal magic, odd characters and crazy love. Minnesota Opera will embark on a week-long, intergenerational community residency February 18–23 in Alexandria, Minnesota. The residency culminates with a 90-minute concert version of Mozart's The Magic Flute on Sunday, February 23 at 2pm in the Jefferson High School Gymnasium. It will be sung in German with English translations projected above the stage.

Today, Minnesota Opera will embark on a three-week, intergenerational community residency in Red Wing, Minnesota. From today, October 7-26, 2013, Minnesota Opera Teaching Artist Bergen Baker will work with Red Wing High School students, teaching them about the art form of opera through interactive lessons, individual coachings and masterclasses. The students will also study and prepare opera choruses to perform alongside adult community members and Minnesota Opera Artists in two 'Opera's Greatest Hits' concerts that culminate the residency.
