Minnesota Opera will embark on a week-long, intergenerational community residency today, February 18-23 in Alexandria, Minnesota. The residency culminates with a 90-minute concert version of Mozart's The Magic Flute on Sunday, February 23 at 2pm in the Jefferson High School Gymnasium. It will be sung in German with English translations projected above the stage.

Minnesota Opera Teaching Artist Bergen Baker will bring the coOPERAtion! residency program to Alexandria public school students, teaching them about the art form of opera through interactive lessons, group rehearsals and master classes. Residency activities will include a series of interactive "Opera 101" lessons focusing on history, drama, movement and musical performance.

The concluding concert is a collaboration with the Central Lakes Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Brad Lambrecht, the Alexandria Children's Choir, the Jefferson High School Carolers and Jefferson High School public speaking students. Minnesota Opera and its community partners are preparing to deliver an operatic experience of the highest artistic quality, while at the same time providing a deeply engaging opera education experience that supports the musical development of student participants.

Tickets are available for this special community performance of The Magic Flute at select locations, at the door or by calling Alexandria Community Education Office at 320.762.3310. More information can be found at mnop.co/alexandria.
