GLORY DAYS to Bring Live Theater Back to the Kelsey Next Month

Maplewood Playhouse kicks off their inaugural season with Glory Days, an endearing musical with a rocking, heartfelt score. Bringing live theater back to the new Lake Park Art's District, Glory Days opens September 8th at the vibrant and revitalized Kelsey Theater.

A year after graduating high school, four best friends reconnect on their old school's football field. Will has called the boys together with a mission: to hack into the sprinkler system so that it goes off when the jocks who bullied them in high school take the field for a charity game. But as the guys wait for instructions on how to break into the system, they quickly realize how dramatically their lives have grown apart. With a soaring pop-rock score, music and lyrics by Nick Blaemire book by James Gardiner, Glory Days is a poignant and witty coming-of-age story about friends searching for understanding and validation as they face the consequences of growing up.

The musical premiered at the Signature Theatre, a professional regional theatre in Arlington, Virginia, from January 15 through February 17, 2008, where it was directed by Eric D. Schaeffer, the Artistic Director of the theatre, with musical staging by assistant director Matthew Gardiner. The musical deals with mature themes and contains mature language.

Kimberly Rommel-Enright will direct Maplewood Playhouse's production, which features Boynton Beach resident Sean Gogan as Will, Miramar resident Mark Hernandez as Jack, Boca Raton resident Seth Kutun as Skip and Pembroke Pines resident Michael Friedman as Andy.

"I am excited because of the challenge this show presents as an actor", states Mark Hernandez. "The amount of dialogue and banter between the characters without any big "show stopping" numbers can be difficult ...but I have all the confidence in the world in myself and fellow cast members to make sure every line is as believable as the next."

Seth Kutun, who has solely performed in the South County area is looking forward to the new audiences in the north end. "There are different audiences wherever you perform but this is new territory for me....I'm very excited to perform at the Kelsey".

Well known veteran musical director, Michael Ursua is thrilled to be involved in this production. "Audiences will love the cast, the tight harmonies, and the story", raves Michael, "the vocals are off the charts. Don't miss Glory Days"

Adds Sean Gogan, "I knew I wanted to do this musical the first time I heard about it. The storyline is one I can personally identify with because I know how hard it is to share something private, like being gay, for the first time. How these characters handle the revelation is a realistic glimpse into our society."
