“Nothing like this has ever happened in Scandinavia, but I’m convinced that sooner or later it will,” said the author of this piece Lars Norén in 2007, and in July 2011, a certain Anders Behring Breivik fulfilled that terrifying prophecy. Prior to that there was, of course, Columbine, Virginia Tech and, even closer to home, the Polytechnique and Dawson College shootings.
Here we are witness to a murderous anger, a drama about to explode, a vicious consequence of our violent, blatant silence. This incandescent account of a sign of humanity is that of a young man on the threshold of adulthood whose entire existence is synonymous with exclusion.
Driven by an ardent desire to combat complacency and armed with the subversive talent of Christian Lapointe, Brigitte Haentjens questions our own responsibility for such horrors in a harsh, sometimes ruthless world.
