The Pollard Theatre's Production Of Rent Opened To A Sold Out House And Runs Through 10/31
RENT opened to a sold out house! Don't miss your chance to see the Oklahoma regional premiere of RENT at the Pollard Theatre in historic downtown Guthrie now through Saturday, October 31, 2009!
Loosely based on Giacomo Puccini's opera La Bohème, RENT is a fantastic journey with seven friends who live in New York City's East Village. Working to survive and create, the young artists are living in the shadow of AIDS while struggling to maintain a Bohemian lifestyle that is quickly disappearing. RENT gained critical acclaim on Broadway and won four Tony Awards in 1996 including Best Musical.
"RENT ushered in a brand new era for Broadway because it was unlike anything that came before it," Pollard Artistic Director W. Jerome Stevenson said. "The show's message of love and celebrating life was able to reach the traditional Broadway audiences and created a brand new audience at the same time. Young people started standing in line overnight just to get tickets. That's truly remarkable."
Stevenson continued, "The Pollard is thrilled to present the Oklahoma regional theatre premiere of RENT. The Broadway National Tour brought the show to town before, but the Pollard is the first professional theatre company in the state to produce the show."
