On November 21st at 7:30pm at The DiMenna Center for Classical Music, The Why Collective will present MIXT: A Living Gallery, an annual immersive experience where artist and audience blur into one. This dynamic event transforms an empty space into a multi-sensory playground of LIVE music, dance, poetry, sound art, visual installations, and interactive elements, all woven together around a single theme. For this iteration of MIXT, we’re embarking on a collective exploration of loneliness, isolation, and waiting, drawing inspiration from mythic heroines like Penelope and Persephone, the resilience of refugees and immigrants, and the realities of chronic and invisible illness.
As soon as you cross the threshold of the gallery, you become a part of the living, breathing exhibit—there will be something that inspires you and something that challenges you and everything in between. Don’t just observe—experience. Join us at MIXT: A Living Gallery and explore what it means to wait, to connect, and to be alone together.
This performance will include ASL Interpretation. This is a one-night-only remount of our cancelled gallery from April 25, 2025.
Tickets are $40 each for general admission, with reduced options for students and artists. All inquiries can be made to thewhycollective@gmail.com. Phone number (716) 957-0539.
Artists: Interactive Sound Art by Brian Ellis; choreography by Laura Dearman and Mark Bankin; world premiere chamber music by Derek Weagle; poetry by Norm Mattox, Rocky Duval, Hannah Mae Sturges, Sydney Anderson, and so many more (maybe even you!); world premiere of the short film Penelope, which begs the thematic question, “what is it to be waiting?”
