From Shared High School to NYC Stage: All-Latinx Team Presents WAITING FOR DADDYOT

An all-Latinx cast and creative team of artists will bring the original new play Waiting for Daddyot to Teatro Latea this February, with performances on February 5, 7, and 8.

Created and performed by Mexican writer and actor Nicole Stewart, with set design by Mexican designer Alex Peña, Waiting for Daddyot marks a meaningful collaboration between artists who once attended the same high school in Mexico City and are now working professionally in New York City theater. The cast also features Afro-Panamanian-American actor Christopher Lewis Dawkins.

The play centers on two children waiting at a bus stop for a father who may—or may not—arrive. Through its minimalist structure and spare setting, Waiting for Daddyot explores themes of absence, hope, and the emotional tension of waiting for someone who exists just out of reach.

Beyond its narrative, the production reflects a larger moment for its creative team. As Latinx artists building careers in a competitive New York theater landscape, Stewart, Peña, and Dawkins use Waiting for Daddyot to carve space for original storytelling rooted in both simplicity and emotional depth.

Presented at Teatro Latea, the production highlights a new generation of artists contributing fresh voices and perspectives to the city’s theater scene while affirming the importance of Latinx representation both onstage and behind the scenes.

Waiting for Daddyot runs February 5, 7, and 8 at Teatro Latea.

Cast

Nicole Stewart
Nina
Nicole Stewart-Reyes (she/her) was born and raised in Mexico City and has been chasing stories ever since. She earned her undergraduate degree in Marketing from Tecnológico de Monterrey before completing her MFA in Acting at The Actors Studio Drama School at Pace University in 2024. Most recently, she trained with the LAByrinth Theater Company’s Intensive Ensemble, where she honed her skills in collaborative, ensemble-driven work. An actor, writer, and mover, Nicole thrives on versatility—shifting seamlessly between classical text, contemporary drama, and the wildly unconventional. Favorite roles include Jo March (Little Women), Nan Carter (Exit, Pursued By a Bear), and Alma Winemiller (Summer and Smoke). Nicole is committed to telling stories that are bold, dynamic, and just a little unpredictable.
