The Wreck of the Unbelievable at The Brick Theater

Brooklyn, NY – Sleth, the playwright behind ‘horsefacts.gov/’ (The Brick 2024, The Tank 2026) and House of Yes’s 2025 Xmas Spectacular ‘A Nightmare Before Twinkmas’, brings his newest theatrical production to The Brick. “The Wreck of the Unbelievable” imagines a scandalous timeline where art world megastar/bad boy/multimillionaire Damien Hirst is posthumously revealed to have had a longtime secret boyfriend, an unknown younger painter named Shape. He is coerced into an interview for a Guggenheim retrospective, led by a former closest friend, Kaminski, a reformed performance artist turned curator. Shape reflects on Hirst’s legacy, subversiveness and obsession with/fear of death. He divulges a messy, explosive and all-consuming 10-year affair that culminates during Hirst’s entry into 2017 Venice biennale, “Treasures from the Wreck of the Unbelievable”. Kaminski sees in Shape’s grief the potential for outrageous, legacy-shattering revelations, so she pushes him further and further over the edge. What happens to those suddenly left in the shadow of someone colossal?
